I was poor as hell. I made less than $14K, but was able to own my own place that way. It was mine & I could do whatever I wanted, & I didn't have to go through the embarrassment of taking handouts. I lived in one (travel trailer) by myself for several years. It was pretty cozy and only costed me $3000. I lived in the south, so no big problems with winter. The only problem was leaks, you really have to watch out for that and take care of any leaks immediately. Anyway lot rent was cheap, and I saved a whole bunch of money. You can also of course buy your own cheap lot somewhere they allow RVs to be used as fulltime residence.
Some people buy real fancy and expensive ones. I think that's a waste of money, but maybe they just have too much money and don't know what to do with it.
