Targets were ~6.5 meters away and roughly 15cm in diameter.

It's different here though. It's not the police who want to take away our guns, in fact most of them seem to like the fact that many citizens carry concealed here. In my state of Colorado the legislatures passed several gun laws and all but two of the county sheriffs in the state refused to enforce the laws because they restricted private gun rights.
I got pulled over 2 months ago and told the officer I had 2 handguns in my car (which is what is highly suggested to do when you have a CCW license. Be honest about it to officers) and instead of freaking out, the officer had a convo with me for a good 5-10 minutes about guns because of common interest. Most police here, or at least in the western part of the country, are incredibly pro-second amendment and don't want to take them at all.
The reason why I'm not as apprehensive about the militarization of police is because I can and do own many of the same firearms that they use. If I were in your position though I'd definitely feel very different. Uncomfortable even

It's the weapon balance between American police and people that seems to have come out of whack though with the armament of the continued police since the end of the 1980s. Ex cops have complained since the 90s about this militarization of the police and then you get stories about sheriffs receiving predator drones and people getting arrest handed to them with tanks breaking down their front door. The reality is that guns and gun laws or lack thereof have absolutely zero correlation between murder and crime rates so there is no reason to restrict their ownership.

In America we have a government agency dedicated to ensuring safe working conditions called OSHA.
If being a criminal was an occupation under their jurisdiction one of their top goals would be the removal of firearms from criminals workplace aka banning them from law abiding people.

If you are going for cheap plinking get a good 22 air rifle. In the states you can shoot them in city limits because they are not firearms. There are dozens and dozens of peer reviewed studies on the subject and only 3 of the 30+ show that firearms have any correlation to murder and crime and the correlation they find is absolutely miniscule.
