Continental philosophy isn't better.
Only the new digital philosophy is promising.

WEININGER

>In Christians pride and humility, in Jews haughtiness and cringing, are ever at strife; in the former self-consciousness and contrition, in the latter arrogance and bigotry, In the total lack of humility of the Jew lies his failure to grasp the idea of grace. From his slavish disposition springs his heteronomous code of ethics, the “Decalogue,” the most immoral book of laws in the universe, which enjoins on obedient followers, submission to the powerful will of an exterior influence, with the reward of earthly well-being and the conquest of the world. His relations with Jehovah, the abstract Deity, whom he slavishly fears, whose name he never dares to pronounce, characterise the Jew; he, like the woman, requires the rule of an exterior authority. According to the definition of Schopenhauer, the word “God” indicates a man who made the world. This certainly is a true likeness of the God of the Jew. Of the divine in man, the true Jew knows nothing; for what Christ and Plato, Eckhard and Paul, Goethe and Kant, the priests of the Vedas, and Fechner, and every Aryan have meant by the divine, for what the saying, “I am with you always even to the end of the world” – for the meaning of all these the Jew remains without understanding. For the God in man is the human soul, and the absolute Jew is devoid of a soul.

"Moderation is not an ideology. It is not an opinion. It is not a thought. It is an absence of thought. If you believe the status quo of 2007 is basically righteous, then you should believe the same thing if a time machine transported you to Vienna in 1907. But if you went around Vienna in 1907 saying that there should be a European Union, that Africans and Arabs should rule their own countries and even colonize Europe, that any form of government except parliamentary democracy is evil, that paper money is good for business, that all doctors should work for the state, etc., etc.—well, you could probably find people who agreed with you. They wouldn't call themselves "moderates", and nor would anyone else."

I've had a lot of shit to put up with in my life. My wife died suddenly in a car crash in 2012. Also ex British Army. (light infantry) I've seen horror.

The stoic philosophy that Marcus Aurelius offers are hard lessons learned.

This isn't a law of the universe.

There are plenty of strong people in our era, because they were raised by people who realized that strength of character is necessary. Not all of us here learned what we know through trial and error, some of us were raised to accept reality as it is in a logical manner.

What is necessary is to regulate the raising of strong people. In order to do this and prevent future degradation of our society once all relevant opponents have been vanquished, it is necessary to instill martial beliefs and ideals into our society, to maintain strength.

Logical extreme? His way of life was a performance ridiculing contemporary life. He lived to be offensive.

Philsophy began with Socrates and ended with Diogenes. Everything since then has been a pointless circlejerk of definitions and masturbation.

What does it matter how we define esoteric mid emotions? How does pursuing these definitions enhance your life, or the lives of others? Philosophy devolved into political sophistry soon after it became a real discipline because they solved all problems necessary to solve and ran out of shit to discuss that mattered.

Liberal institutions cease to be liberal as soon as they are attained: later on, there are no worse and no more thorough injurers of freedom than liberal institutions. One knows, indeed, what their ways bring: they undermine the will to power; they level mountain and valley, and call that morality; they make men small, cowardly, and hedonistic [genüsslich] — every time it is the herd animal that triumphs with them. Literally an attention-seeking faggot trying to prove to everyone how cool he because he doesn't care. If he really didn't care, he'd just fuck off into the woods and live like the wild beast he professes we should all be like. Not dead.
Just decaying. Nothing will truly die.
An unforeseen thought will come into the light of the mind soon enough. Keep reading. Keep pondering. Keep discussing. Do not forget to write it down.
Whether it is you, or I, or another man or woman on this planet who comes across this or those thoughts is not important, what is important is that it is articulated and discussed.
Something will always eat at the corpse of the dead. And is philosophy is truly dead, then one must still be gaining something by feeding upon it.

Regardless. Eat, shit, sleep, fuck, and be happy.

But he was biased because he was an extremely shitty and temperamental person.

He spent his last years knocking door to door on his former students homes to go on his knees crying and asking for forgiveness.

He was a terrible teacher that abused his students.

Fun fact:

Not a single one of them accepted his apologies.
>>
>>76718976

Also, that's not a concept that he came up with at all.

That's been said since forever, that "demons live in the mind"

Maybe even further back than Thales and Parmenides, which are some of the oldest guys we know about.

It's also shared by many other cultures around the world.
>>
>>76719194
Several of his former students were at his deathbed, so i'm not entirely sure that he was quite so awful as you describe.

Irregardless, one doesn't have to be a good person to open up the world, or philosophise.
>>
>>76719540

But his views are deeply affected by how he is and his life.

I think that's a shitty quote because he was biased, as I said before.
>>

Sadly, i haven't read nearly enough philosophy to be knowledgeable about he said what first. You know what they say, and it certainly applies to me at this point, Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.
>>
>>76719654

Which is another quote that amounts to nothing.

If you havent read then read, but never listen to quotes as if they held any truth at all.

Speak about whatever you want, it's always up to you to be informed or not.

In the end it's all about the discussion, so you dont need to read at all to argue.

Also reading philosophy is not an "upgrade" to your knowledge (if you understand the metaphor). It is a sidegrade.

The most iliterate cunt can argue and btfo any so-called "intellectual", given that he's capable of arguing of course.

We are living in the Kali Yuga, the end times, a time of irreversible spiritual decay. We have, as a people, lost the spiritual hierarchy that all great societies are structured around. However, one can still cultivate excellence and higher principles on a personal level. By looking to tradition, and especially esoteric/mythological aspects of tradition, the road map to greatness is there.

Marcus is the true embodiment of human excellence. One of the few true philosopher kings.

His "teacher", Epictetus is also one of my favourites. His teachings are harsh but at the same time always a reliable source of wisdom:

“No man is free who is not master of himself.”
― Epictetus

“The greater the difficulty, the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempests. ”
― Epictetus

“You are a little soul carrying around a corpse”
― Epictetus

“Circumstances don't make the man, they only reveal him to himself.”
― Epictetus

“He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at.”
― Epictetus

“Any person capable of angering you becomes your master;
he can anger you only when you permit yourself to be disturbed by him.”
― Epictetus

“It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”
― Epictetus

“Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it.”
― Epictetus

Confirmed for not knowing a goddamn thing. I don't particularly care for Nietzsche on a personal level, but you are dead wrong about him. In his time, he was considered to be something of a prodigy when it came to philosophy. Almost every one of his undergraduate papers was published in journals. He was offered a teaching position at a record young age. He was widely respected for his mastery of the classics, especially Greek history/philosophy. Even people who didn't like his philosophical assertions never once questioned his quality of scholarship.

Let me guess, you skimmed Zarathustra, didn't get it, and decided it was a rant?

>classically understood type
You're missing the point anon, the big thing about Nietzsche is that he realised that reason is almost entirely impotent. When you accept a "cogent, rational, logically formulated argument", you are in most cases (not all but most) simply taking a liking to the first principles it's founded upon. The actual argument is irrelevant. You're just won over by the point of view it's expounding.

As a result, Nietzsche's writing is incredibly rhetorical. He knows there's no way to legitimately prove any value, so instead he writes so ferociously and vividly he makes you feel what he feels too.

Not to mention Nietzsche trashed analytics before it was even invented. The whole movement actually emerged as a big reaction to his claim that rational arguements are all rest on axioms of personal feelings. They spent decades toying around with language and logic until Wittgenstein had to come and BTFO them out.

>We're working with language, language is subjective, that means anything said with language us is subjective!

His philosophical system is just a form of Western Buddhism stripped of it's mysticism. Waste of time desu senpai although he'd not a bad, difficult or obtuse writer so you could do much worse.

His essays and aphorisms on other topics are great though, worth reading. He an intelligent man who wrote well. The system he arrived at is not worthwhile (unless you are attracted to Eastern religions and want a philosophical underpinning to them), but on other topics he's an intersting and worthwhile person to read.
