True, if all people actually were equal. Capitalism alone isn't, a lot of capitalism is just the fundamentals of economics. That said, the hate for state ownership (even without it being centrally planned, i.e. state owns a business managed almost like a private one), globalization and free movement of currency all place massive strains on a nation's culture and way of life.

If anything, post-WW2 states have become more totalitarian behind the scenes [NSA, GCHQ spying.] while encouraging individualism publicly. It is not inevitable that a state which interferes in some private affairs will grow to interfere in all of them, any more than it is that any state with a tax system will become socialist or any state with an army will go to war.
That said, I'm not particularly concerned with what people do in their bedrooms. The culture outside the bedroom, however, should not be imported wholesale from foreign countries. That is primarily an economic matter in the end.
