As standards of living increase globally and women are given more and more control over their reproductive systems we're going to see the same thing happen in the rest of the world as we are seeing in the developed world. Look at the population explosion since the advent of fossil fuel use. What we get with fossil fuels is a lot of energy for very little work.
The problem you have is that you don't look at how each individual system that props up our lifestyles in the west relies on finite resources, and particularly fossil fuels.

The biggest fallacy is that we can feed the world. Yeeeees.. in a way. Not quality food, but we can.
But, there is a hard limit on our farming practices. We don't use soil to grow any more. What we do instead is use the land area that there used to be soil as a sponge that holds chemical fertilisers. Ever grow alfalfa on cotton wool? That's our farming method.
Food quality issues aside (which does affect human health), the true reality is that as soon as we run out of oil, our farming land will literally become a barren wasteland.
So, yeah. It's true that right now, using technology, this huge population can live well. But for a finite amount of time, and at the overall cost of the land being completely unable to sustain human life when the resources are gone.
