I enjoy listening to vaporwave, but I acknowledge that it is largely because of the nostalgic comfort it provides, which is inherently degenerate because it's escapism.
Very little of it is original. A lot of it is indefensibly repetitive. Basically it soothes my anxiety despite knowing that it fails by any objective metric of musical quality that I've ever applied to anything else I've ever liked.
It's a shame too because the actual sound palette used is so interesting and has such potential, but it's mostly just pitch and tempo-shifting to samples of music no one would give the time of day by itself.
I give some of the ambient stuff more credit.
