>Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed doubts Tuesday about the reliability of the US F-35 stealth fighter, as the government looks to replace its aging fleet of jets.

>"For 10 years, the Conservatives completely missed the mark when it came time to deliver to Canadians and our military the equipment they need. They clung to a plane that does not work and is far from working."

That's a shame.
>>
Good, the F35 is shit.
>>
took him a while to say atleast one thing right

but even still if he had a better figher plane he would not kill his enemies as they would win

>>
Fucking faggot retard Trudeau the F35 is the apex of aerospace weaponry
>>
While I agree with him, how does he know the F-35 is a piece of crap? Does he have inside knowledge of the project and experience in mechanical engineering or did he just read what some liberal journalist with a degree in Women's Studies said?
>>
>>76466661
Everyone know the F-35 is garbage
They literally build a shit tier plane for the sole purpose of selling it to their lapdogs (UK, Canada...etc) who fooled themselves into believing it was F-22 tier of quality when its actually below F16
>>
>>76466661
F35 would be a shitty investment.
>>
>>76466661
He's right, they need container ships to get more refugees.
>>
He's probably correct to be honest.

Anyway, they will be so expensive you could outfit an entire airforce for the price of an F35 pilot's helmet.

I thought Trudeau already cancelled that project ...like 6 months ago?

He's not the sort to spend a fortune on military toys while LGBT youth are suffering.

He's right, you know. The F-35 stealth fighter doesn't spread a tolerant, diverse enough message. The new Canadian-made stealth fighter will be larger and painted with rainbow colours, as if you're enemies don't see your stealth planes then they win.
>>
It's based off of Canadian firefighting technology.
>>
Whats the point of thwse multi million dollar air crafts if we arent even going to kill people with them? As a tax payer, I dont like the idea. Do you go buy jeans at the mall and not wear them? That would be silly. He better test these new machines on human targets. Go big or go home goys.
>>
The problem with the f35 is that it's a multi-roll fighter and people keep trying to compare it's speed and maneuvering to interceptors. Two completely different planes for completely different roles.

I'm in the industry and I guarantee you that any leader has access to all the technical reports and what have you about the said vehicle. It is just a matter if they want to look through that information and Trudeau is no exception.

The Canadian purchase of the F-35 was controversial from the start for a number of reasons. Perhaps the biggest thing that Canada requires is that their aircraft have two engines so they can perform patrols up North where there obviously isn't a lot of infrastructure. Then there are other issues like airborne refueling and logistics.

>Lockheed Martin

He obviously has no idea...
F-35 is great at what it is.
The "what it is" part confuses people who are not heavily into military topics.
It is not a direct replacement for F-16's or F-18's, which are multirole fighters.
F-35 is a strike fighter. Not a multirole fighter.
That means it is more focused on ground attack role than fighter role, while it's the other way around with classic late cold war western planes, which usually are multirole fighters.
F-35 should be compared to planes like Su-34, Harrier, Su-22, A-7 and so on.
Once it's tech issues get ironed out, and they will eventually, it will be a really nice strike fighter. But it's never going to be a F-22, just a really modern strike aircraft with (very modern) second rate fighter capabilities - which obviously will not be a match for the fighter capabilities of an equally modern fighter, in fact there are questions about matching those of upgraded older generation fighters.

So it's not a bad plane at what it's supposed to do. The problem is that many people, including its own marketing (for obvious reason$), think its a classic multirole fighter.
Because countries without a massive budget for a massive air force need a multirole fighter, like the classic western fighters.
They don't need a strike fighter and don't want a strike fighter, but they still get F-35 pushed on them. It might hurt both sides here, Lockheed gets flak for selling a bad multirole fighter (that is bad at being a multirole fighter because actually its not a multirole fighter but a strike fighter), and countries that don't have actual fighters to support their F-35 and need actual fighters will get screwed too.
USA has F-22 for that job in long term, not enough many but that's a separate screwup, there were supposed to be 3 times as many.
>>
I hear the F35 is compatible with the new power up pods that appear after killing all 5 of the red enemy aircraft.

No, it's a lot easier to build one plane. You can reduce your support and costs of maintaining several planes, make deployment plans easier, et cetera.

The navy did the same thing. They wanted to build a single multi role plane because it would be a lot easier to outfit the carriers for a small number of planes. Congress said no. So they sneaked around it: they offer a more expensive plan to "upgrade" the Hornet, so we got the Super Hornet and Growler which replace several navy aircraft and ultimately have nothing in common with the original Hornet except some level of how it looks.

Yet he's going to spend it on f-10's or something like that. Justin the retard Truedeau, always doing what his puppet masters tell him.

If he were a real leader he would start supporting Canadian companies and we'd make our own airforce. With the money we spent on buying shitty planes we could have made a million fighter-drones. No pilots needed, and they would cheap as hell to replace. Also numbers > quality especially in air fights. Let's see your special stealthy f-35 dodge 200,000 A-A missiles, yeah I thought so.

Drones are the future for air-superiority, and all the big players are investing big in drones. We're still wasting money on buying expensive shit that requires tons of maintenance and is filled with specialized parts that won't be available anymore in 20 years.

Anyways, my point is that we do have tons of engineers and we COULD have the infrastructure if the government properly invested in it.

Going back on the F-35 program was a key point in Trudeau campaign with the Liberal party. When he was elected last year, he went back on that word.

There is an annual $110 million dollar payment EVERY country needs to make that has F-35 on orders and before the receive their F-35, payment will be done in full. This is a key point to why the program has gone on so far, its a money grab.

At the time that Trudeau sold the remaining stock of Canadian gold (approx $100 million) our annual F-35 payment was due to the program, so you could say that the gold sold was for the program. Why, because gold is an important component for the manufacturing of the F-35 electronics.

Why does Canada not need the F-35? Simple, Canada needs Interceptors that can quickly fly from the few airfields we have and arrive to our international boundaries to meet with the threat. The F-35 does not have the ability to fly more than 150 miles (approx 230?) without refuelling. As far as I know, Canada has no aerial tankers.

The whole program is a disaster and would not fit for Canadian requirements and if possible, to pull out now would be devastating as I would not imagine Lockheed and company would give a refund. Face it, we are stuck with the shitty program where we would have been better off with an F-18 alternative or if possible, get involved in the F-15 Silent Eagle program.

IT has a longer range than your current F-18s do, even when they have external fuel tanks and the F-35 is purely internal fuel only. It is one of the biggest selling points for the jet...
>>
>>76466661
The conservatives actually said the same thing and were looking into other options. I don't see why people are agreeing with him when literally the opposition said the exact same thing.

The F-35 is too heavy for the single engine that is designed for it. The F-135, or whatever. I'm only going off the top of my head from what I have learned about the program. If you want to refute my claim, please do so with a source and I will reconsider what I have said. Until then, the engine in the F-35 can not fly pass 150 miles on a standard combat load.
>>
>>76476056

So you're telling me that a plane that is supposedly more stealthy and has better radar technology than the F-22 isn't even a good dogfighter? Face it, it's expensive and doesn't do what it was supposed to do.
>>
>>76474396

Just leave the humans on an AWAC far far away or operate them through satellite if you don't mind the latency. There is no reason to have the F35 at all.

With high enough gain antennas jamming is not an issue. If keeping those antennas locked is a problem with fighter drone maneuvering you could have a tiered approach, a couple of stable flying comm drones relaying communication with the fighter drones.

ROFL, Leafs baiting hard today it seems. The f-35 has higher operating altitudes and much superior radar technology and superior stealth technology. It knows you're there long before you know it's there. No need to dogfight if you can destroy the other plane without them even knowing you were there
>>

It has a combat radius of 700 miles on internal fuel which means it can go around twice that in one direction.

Costing like 20 different planes fulfilling different roles and being fraction as effective as any of them.

American military tech development is a meme, they think making billion dollars worth matchine like F-22 or comparable program cost F-35 would make it equivalently x times better than cheaper planes, when the truth is it doesnt and problem lies with extremely high RnD costs in US and corruption.

We develop silimar tech for fraction of cost, and Chinese just steal yours for free (including already stolen F-35 designs).

>>

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you weren't fishing for (You)s. You should be able to realize a combat aircraft isn't going to have a range of 150 miles just on common sense and especially in an aircraft that can go 1200 miles and hour. Do you really think the plane has 7.5 minutes of flight time before it runs out of fuel at top speed?
>>
>>76478642
I thought it's speed was a major problem in dogfights though? Especially compared to f-16 top speeds
>>
>>76466661
Another prime example of the world depending on the USA for defense while they go play at socialist theories.
>>
>>76467672

>So whats a better plane?

It depends on the country. A plane suited for one country won't work for another. Canada needs a reliable and durable plane in the Arctic north in case the Russians parashoot in. I think for Canada, the A-10 can provide the ruggedness and the CAS role Canada is desperately lacking.
>>
>>76479184
It's a design tradeoff between turn rate and alpha. The F-16 relies on turn rate and acceleration. In contrast, the F-18 relies on trading speed and energy to quickly point its nose around. For whatever reason, I speculate that it has to do with high off-boresight missile shots, the aeronautical engineers decided that the F-18ish approach was better.

https://fightersweep.com/2548/f-35-v-f-16-article-garbage/
>>
>>76479510
The RCAF doesn't need an ancient, dedicated CAS airframe. They need something to defend their airspace. Suggesting that they buy ancient A-10s while their Hornets fall out of the sky is the pinnacle of insanity

>>
>>76479134

>>

>>
>>76480085
Must I bring out the bingo chart?

Or do you have an actual argument
>>
>>76479184
Problem isn't top speed, it's maintaining speed. An F-35 has 35% more wing area than an F-16 but it's almost 50% heavier when loaded. The plane turns great but it bleeds airspeed badly to do so, meaning a lighter aircraft (like an F-16) in a sustained dogfight will eventually have an energy (airspeed) advantage over the F-35. Although it's debatable how much dogfighting the F-35 will actually ever do.
And the F-35 has a significantly higher top speed than the F-16 (M1.6 vs M1.2), and can actually sprint short distances at M1.2 without using an afterburner.
>>
>>76479659
Ahh yes, I remember seeing them talk about f-16 comparisons and I understood that the f-35 could dogfight if needed. Interesting concept about the nose turn, I had never heard of that before
>>
>>76479931
Fast and seven and a half minutes fast are two totally different things. Eight minutes of fuel is rocket plane territory and while I'm sure they would have added one if they could the F-35 isn't a rocket plane.
>>
>>76475050

Just like your existing F-18s

>lighter aircraft (like an F-16) in a sustained dogfight will eventually have an energy (airspeed) advantage over the F-35
Energy is a little more than airspeed, but the designers decided that nose-pointing was more important in an age of off-boresight missiles and HMDs

>And the F-35 has a significantly higher top speed than the F-16 (M1.6 vs M1.2)
Not at anything resembling a combat loadout, between the additional weight and drag

I can't find anything on the F-35's fuel consumption with afterburners but the F-16's fuel consumption under that scenario is around what you're saying so it's possible. Of course 1200 mph probably isn't full afterburner for the F-35 and max range isn't measured at sea level so I highly doubt the F-35 has sub ten minutes of fuel at that speed in the conditions we were discussing.

The fact that modern engines are extremely reliable, to the point where having 2 engines increases the overall chance of a crash due to non engine factors.

The 'two engines' meme is based on the US navy not wanting to use the F-16, which is flown out of Alaska and Greenland by the way.
