I have Slovak ancestry basically Czech and Slovakia are different countries Czech being more Atheist, more industrialised etc. It is a meme that different nationalities should be in one state in Czechoslavakia Slovakia was poorer and felt Czechia was getting all the attention whilst the Czechs thought that Slovaks were dragging them down. Plus Slovakia needs more cred as a independent nation in a region where a lot of states have histories that go back huge timescales. Hope that helps fellow Ausbro.

How widespread is knowledge of English? If I were to move there would native people be willing to speak to me in Czech or would they insist on using English (if they know it)? I mean I'd like to learn the local language wherever I am.
I ask because of experiences in Scandinavia - all speak English, almost impossible to practice their language when trying to learn it - and Germany (many speak English and often insist on speaking it rather than German).

Because Prague is meme tier nowadays. It's a pretty cool city ridden with shitty tourist traps like the Charles Bridge. Bunch of very nice neighborhoods, restaurants, cafes etc. but most people make the mistake of confining themselves to segway tours and not exploring the real Prague.
Also, there are plenty of cool places with zero obnoxious chinks with selfie sticks, Prague is not the entire CZ.
