If we moved to alternative sources of energy, there would be no need to import fossil fuel from the Middle East and the Arab States that own produces much of the world's population and they wouldn't be as rich and powerful as they are now.

The problem is alternate sources of energy is expensive and doesn't produce as much energy as fossil fuel

Discuss.

Well, just say it honestly and look at the nations who are using 'green' energy like now like Germany. Its not viable economically. This is partly because the technology is not as stable as other mainstays like nuclear which have improved dramatically.
I think the big issue is that certain technologies get a green stamp and these technologies are always the ones that require the most government dollars when technologies like Nuclear that work just fine get snubbed for not being 'green enough'.
China however gives no fucks about that and is building so many nuke plants experts think its unsafe.

Actually we don't have to do that right now. The U.S is sitting on light crude to the tune of beyond saudi arabia and could easily shut them out of the market but that would probably destabilize the region even more. There's no easy answer to the middle east. To be honest its a culture war and the democrats understand this which is why they portray muslims as victims as the truth is they are basically worse than conservative christians were years ago. That and the travesty of the 'iran deal' which was basically lets get our banks in there to someone magically jew them into not wanting to kill us all is just another leap of faith that the obama adminstration made 'for the future'.

Alternative energies are cheap and easy to construct, maintain. Oil companies just keep it all under their thumbs.

The world could easily swap over to bio-diesel from wheat, hydro-chemical power-plants that uses algae as well as thorium plants. And produces bio-friendly-degrable everything from hemp products.

But since all those ideas are renewable and fairly cheap to maintain, the companies owning them can't charge us for limited resources such as fossil fuel.

friend before you drop off to Canadian retardation level, think about this for a few seconds, do you REALLY think mining, drilling, refining fossil fuel and then shipping it across the globe is the CHEAPEST and MOST EFFICIENT energy resource we have?

We should just shut down electricity and let the survival of the fittest begin!

As long as the dollar is tied to the worlds oil, oil will keep on being used as a energy source, and you can't change that.

fucking NUCLEAR god fucking damnit you oil shills stop killing nuclear fuck you

Germany went full retard and abandoned nuclear while installing photovoltaics in a country that doesn't get nearly enough sunlight to make it economically feasible

The problem is that PV isn't feasible at all - the southwestern US and australia are doing just fucking fine with it.

The problem is that german politicians are fucking retarded.

What I'd like to see is a large scale movement to nuclear where things like hydro aren't feasible of course.

Once we have excess electrical capacity it can be used to create hydrocarbons from CO2 in the air, which could mean local production of things like gasoline and heating fuel (hydrocarbons are likely to still be useful due to high energy concentration). This would remove the need for rare earth metals needed for electric car batteries and is carbon neutral

Nuclear, possibly supplemented with solar/wind, is the only reasonable alternative to fossil fuels. I cannot understand why anyone would seriously doubt this.

can't have renewables without fossils like natural gas, because they are unreliable

Maybe in the future wars will be fought over rare earth metals, who knows.
