If you want to review movies for a high-end publication then you need to get a degree from a famous art school.
These schools tend to be fairly insular and homogeneous in their aesthetic values.
As a consequence, people who review films for a living tend to like the same things and evaluate films in a similar manner.
Thus, the ratings they give don't really reflect the opinions of the general public.
