I would argue that Mozart specifically is a rare exception. He worked hard to bring down the separation between auiences by creating works so great that they could be enjoyed by the elite but not so pretentiously high minded that the common people were disconnected to it.
in the case of Bach, he was on the church and wrote his music to praise the glory of god primarily.
Ballet on the other hand is just people twirling around in tights. The only reason it is taken seriously is because of it's historical background as being favored by the elite. Even black American hiphop has more credibility than ballet.

That said, traditional couples dancing is very healthy. Keeps you fit and active and you're dancing with numerous girls throughout a good night, or you end up practicing with a partner. Not sure how such scenes are nowadays though, kinda dropped mine a number of years ago due to location issues.

I'm actually not a fan of the Russian style of dance. It's very dramatic and flowery and focused on showing off technique, which is fine, but they tend to use that for every. single. role.
It works for dramatic roles like Kitri from Don Quixote and to some extent Odelile from Swan Lake, but most roles for women require a certain shyness? I completely lose my suspension of disbelief when shy, sheltered Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty is doing 180 degree arabsque extensions into a prince's face. A princess would never do that, it's so vulgar. And they just repeat the same mannerisms whichever role they're doing.
The Sugarplum fairy is dramatic, flowery and in-your-face technique.
Diana from Diana & Aceton is dramatic, flowery and in-your-face.
