North Vietnam was supported by China and the USSR. The North lost over a million combatants and about two million citizens. The US lost 60,000 soldiers.
North Vietnam never attacked the mainland the US and had no capability to ever do so. Their country was smoldering ruins when the war was over. Now, our government and culture continues, and our factories use them as a source of cheap labor.
You might argue that the US didn't win the war. You can't argue that the North did just because we decided to stop before exterminating them to the last man.

The Vietnam war was not lost because there wasn't support for it at home. A majority of the US public supported the war for many years, and only shifted later in the Nixon administration.
The real problem was the overall objective of the war. Propping up South Vietnam, a corrupt kleptocracy that had no legitimate support amongst its own people who (very fairly) saw it as a colonialist stooge government out to enrich a select few.
The whole mess could have been avoided if the US had not bought into the whole "Domino theory" and worked with Ho Chi Mihn the way we worked with Tito in Yugoslavia. The dude was waaaaaay more terrified of the Chinese then he was of the Americans. And with good reason too, since Vietnam fought a war with China a few years after the US pulled out, and also invaded Cambodia because the commies in that country had gone literally bat shit insane.
North Vietnam was the legitimate government in the eyes of the Vietnamese, on both sides of the border.
