Physician here. I would like to address specifically the claim that illegal immigrants are a significant source of healthcare costs and costs to the taxpayer. But first off note that both the laws (such as EMTALA) forcing hospitals to treat all-comers and incur these costs, and laws forcing government/taxpayers to cover them, are the actual problem. Without them it doesn't matter how illegal immigrants get healthcare. They are also unethical in the first place.
That said, the idea of huge immigrant healthcare costs is basically a myth. Yes, they are the ethnic group that is least insured proportionally, and the ethnic group most likely to inappropriately use expensive resources like the ER over primary care. But overall, they actually use the ER LESS than American citizens:
