I hated it the first time reading it, but after having looked back on it, I have come to realize that it was a brilliant book, including animal farm.
The Ministry of Love is still an incredibly poignant part to read even to this day.
Killed my will to read fiction.
After growing up in a world that basically said "racism is bad so we'll correct it with racism," my fear of fiction has only grown. The pleasant, detachment of non-fiction is all I have left.
I'm glad I didn't read Brave New World. Read one and you're scared for life, read both and you're looking for a way out.

After I read it I remember thinking how completely misguided everyone was worrying about "ooooeee big brother it's just like 1984". It's a brutal book, and nothing our governments have done is even close to it.
