Why this keeps happening. (More so than just it being "reported" more).
Simple answer?
Because teachers aren't allowed to be "teachers" anymore, but rather taught to be the kids "friend".
There's no clear divide between the two parties. Whereas before (while obviously plenty of instances happened) the teacher would always be treating the kids as funnily enough, kids.
Boundries were set and kids knew that they were there to learn and (supposed) to do as the teachers told them too without argument. Teachers were trained and knew they were there to teach the kids and (attempt) to keep them in line. Nothing more.
Now with that said, plenty of classes had a "friendly" dynamic, however it was still clear the teacher was there to teach and not give a rats ass if the kids thought the teacher was "cool" or not. Education was all that mattered.
More recently (Decade and a half MAYBE two at a push), Teachers have been trained to focus more on making sure the kids feel like you're and "adult friend" who'll always be there for the kid when needed. The idea being that the kids then feel safe around you so put up less of a guard on potentional mental issues they might have, making it easier to spot and as such giving you a chance to help them. And also that they're more likely to open to you if they've suffered/ing some kind of abuse at home.

HOWEVER, this isn't the same when it comes to teenagers. So often people (teachers specifically when telling them off) refer to the teenage students as "young adults". This is where things go blury. At this point it's much harder to pinpoint where each individual kid is in life. Show me a 5 year old, I'll show you how it looks/sounds/talks/acts like every other 5 year old. Same with an 7 or a 10 year old. In those ages, kids all age basically the same way.
With teenagers though? Puberty throws everything's out the window. Everyone knew that 14 year old at school who looked 22. Everyone's got that friend that still gets asked for ID at the pub even though their pushing 30. More importantly all teenagers go out of their way to act like they're fully developed adults and start doing the same things normal adults do. Their social lives basically mirror adults social lives. The only difference between teenage and adult social lives is that the latter owns the house their drinking booze in.

Which is the problem. Most people don't do the dating scene.
