/pol/ you just got labeled "the lowest common denominator" by the smartest person alive. If there has even been a BTFO moment, it's this right here. Do you think decent people shitpost? Because that's what goes on here. And a bunch of Trump shilling.

Every politician is a demagogue. Obama was a demagogue. Sanders is a demagogue. Clinton is one, too.

Do you think all of them are up there using rational arguments? No, you have to be a "demagogue" to capture large voting blocks that think only emotionally. There's no choice.

Just goes to show you that those in academia have their heads too far up their own asses.

Even from a neutral standpoint, if a smart guy like Stephen Hawking took the time to compare the records of the two main candidates (Hillary and Donald) he'd see that Hillary has a far shadier record than anything Donald has ever done.

Hillary destroyed Libya, Syria, helped create ISIS, had a private email server to skirt around FOI requests, took bribes from Goldman Sachs, laughed about successfully defending a child rapist, intimidated Bill's rape victims, the list goes on and on...

He needs to fuck off back to his specialty field and stay out of American politics.

>>

Since Stephen Hawking is apparently too busy wasting government money on shit nobody cares about to pay even passing attention to his own country's politics, I will clarify, because it isn't complicated at all.

We've had thirty years of Globalist Neoconservative rule in this country and everyone is fucking tired of it. Our politics are inundiated in disingenuous Koch and Soros owned criminals who don't believe anything they say and are only in politics at all because they're addicted to power like drug addicts to crack.

We're sick and tired of being told everything is our fault when we never had a choice between good candidates to begin with. We're angry and resentful at a political establishment that holds us in contempt. When someone comes along who offers to destroy that establishment, however faint a hope he offers, we jump on board. Ron Paul, even Rand, etc.

Then Trump comes along. He's not a "faint" hope, he's a blazing superstar in a sea of candles, and he's laying waste to traitors and sleazebags across the country already.

You're goddamn right he has support, if you can't tell why people like Donald Trump it is almost certainly because you've never talked to the average American.

In fairness, hard science & engineering types are notorious for making asses of themselves when they speak outside their fields. In my experience, physicists tend to think they know more about the social sciences than they do (which, while less rigorous than the hard sciences, still aren't something you can wade into with absolutely no training.) Engineers tend to think they know more about economics and politics, and programmers tend to think they know everything about everything.

Stephen Hawking's not like that. He's just all-around smart. I'm just generally bitching. You can't even imagine how many ATROCIOUS papers I've read that were co-authored by physicists, geneticists or mathematicians and clearly not peer-reviewed by a single competent linguist or archaeologist, yet somehow still managed to get published in major journals.

Never in a million years would I vote for Trump, but this is a ridiculous argument.

One, Trump is popular precisely BECAUSE people have lost all faith in the government. Two, Trump actually is qualitatively different from every nominee that's come before him. There's never been a candidate with any real shot at the presidency who was this willing to disregard conventional political wisdom and alienate the members of his own party before. Certainly not one who got away with it.

And encouraging people not to vote is laughable. Sure, don't vote, if you want politicians to ignore you even more openly than they already are.

No hes not. And no people have not lost faith. If they did, they would not be voting, waiting for politicians to fix all of their problems. And trump is popular purely because of 'muh wall' and because he is not PC.

>There's never been a candidate with any real shot at the presidency who was this willing to disregard conventional political wisdom and alienate the members of his own party before. Certainly not one who got away with it.

Yes, and he will not be getting away with it either. You talk as if he was already president. he is not and will never be.

>And encouraging people not to vote is laughable. Sure, don't vote, if you want politicians to ignore you even more openly than they already are.

No, the point of not voting is to show the government that we will no longer take their bs and play their little game every 4 years. The LAST thing a government wants is for people to truly lose faith in their authority, because civil war and unrest follows shortly after. This is why you see goverment encouraging people to vote and participate in the political system through virtually every communication outlet available, and this is why the media is bombarded with propaganda to get you to keep on voting.

If we as a country, on election day, decide not to vote at all, then things will start to change.
>>
>>75786467
I don't see the point in getting so asshurt about it. If Trump is a failure, then whites will be beyond disaffected. Trump represents hope in the system. He represents a peaceful solution to the general anxiety of white America. If he wins and fails to follow through, that could dramatically change the zeitgeist; possibly from peaceful to something else.

When you actually have to struggle and watch your job get outsourced and all your neighbors jobs get outsourced, you start looking for combative people to lead your cause.

You're an idiot.

If we, as a country on election day decided not to vote at all, then somebody would simply seize power. Either one of the politicians who are already established in the gov't -- you know, those politicians you love so much -- or, perhaps more likely, somebody in the military, some well-connected and well-positioned colonel or general.

They might govern reasonably competently, or they might be utterly corrupt and incompetent, but either way it's damn sure they wouldn't feel at all accountable to you and wouldn't give a damn about listening to your particular agenda, whatever it is. Their first priority would be to PREVENT a civil war & ensuing breakdown of the civil order. Actually, their absolute first priority would be to secure their own power, quite correctly noting that they were preventing somebody much worse from moving in. And it's likely that most of the country, no matter how disgusted with the gov't they are right now, would support them, because very few people would welcome an actual civil war.

Enjoy your military dictatorship.

This isn't a fucking conspiracy theory, understand. This is the most likely outcome -- it's played out in Eastern Europe, in Asia, in Latin America and Africa -- when the democratic process breaks down. Grow the fuck up.

Hawking is right, but too insulated from the average American to understand the reasons for the popularity of Trump. Worsening economic conditions for the average whiteperson and deterioration of the racial hierarchy are the main reasons for his appeal.

How hard is this for people to understand? The whole social contract in America was that even if your life is shit, you're at least above the blacks or hispanics. This is no longer the case because there are increasingly many superfluous people who are simply not needed for capitalism's continued function, combined with the abolition of outright legal discrimination and affirmative action. They feel more under siege by culture wars since their economic conditions are worsening.

These superfluous people will be too dumb to work any new jobs created by technological developments, this is why the AI revolution is different.

Hawking is a theoretical physicist, no matter how "smart", him having an opinion does not make it right or more interesting than someone with actual political culture.

Trump is a populist that is appealing to the masses, undoubtedly, and this is only scaring the people who forgot that there needs to be a demos (a people) for a demo-cracia (democracy) to work.
