I've noticed similar things in British advertising where there's a disproportionate amount of black people in acting roles and advertising.
The strange thing is you rarely see Indian or Pakistani actors on tv, even though they're the largest population of non-whites in the UK.

Same here in the US except it's with mexicans instead of pakis. Hispanics outnumber africans 2:1, there's also half as many asians as there are africans, however you almost never see hispanics/asians in commercials. 30% of the population is completely ignored on tv and the 12% africans make up all the "diversity".
