It's not enough to afford a kid or two while renting at the bottom of the barrel where all you have to support yourself is some unskilled labor or retail job. All you're doing then is producing fodder for the many pitfalls of the city. It is necessary to own property in order to have children and be able to secure their future. Also, in this day and age, dual income is necessary to maintain quality of life, and so it is likely you will have to find a gf willing to work as hard as you for the first few years until you can afford to buy property and start a family afterwards. Anything else is asking for divorce/child support.
