No, you cannot. You just eat a lot less than what you believe. I'm assuming you're either 13 or an absolute manlet, so you'd need to eat about 1200-1400 calories on a daily basis (as an absolute minimum). If you ate more than that _consistently_ you would weigh more.
Still, this does not address people who are FAT. You could make some sort of argument for having a disease that doesn't allow you to process food properly, resulting in you shitting out food without processing it. This article says that they are _struggling_ with keeping the weight off. There is nothing keeping them from not gaining weight, they just get hungry and start binging again. A lack of willpower results in them regaining weight. I do not see how this contradicts anything any of us said.
Even if their metabolisms slow down, there is a very simple (though admittedly, not easy, keeping fit is hard work) method to prevent gaining weight once more. Lowering caloric intake.
Look, no one here will claim that losing weight is something that is easy or can be achieved in a short amount of time. The problem is that there is a culture of denying responsibility for people's weight. The fact is that fat people don't eat "just salads" and thin people can binge on McDicks for days without any consequences. Losing and maintaining a healthy or fit weight means investing time and resisting desires, of course. But there is no physical law preventing you from doing this, everyone is only responsible for themselves.

I've seen people eat a fuckload of shit food, sodas and pastries and they STILL barely have any noticeable BF, while on the other side, there are people who instantly gain stomach fat as soon as they dare go above maintenance levels.
And no, it's not some magical formation of fat matter without consuming enough calories, it's actually the way different bodies absorb food. Some of them seem to not notice and absorb food at all and act as a mouth-to-asshole pipe, while others seem to absorb every fucking calorie they ingest.
My stomach, for an example, is very fucking sensitive and I instantly gain stomach fat the moment I jump over 2000kcal or dare touch carbs. Stomach fat that's basically impossible to be burned for some reason, unless I do an extreme 1500kcal deficit diet combined with keto and IF. And when I do that deficit, ALL of my gains are burned before it, as my retarded body thinks that the energy stored as muscle tissue is less important than fucking fat in your stomach. It really does everything in its power to preserve every last reserve of energy for me.
