Got lucky with initial astounding military victories, largely due to revolutionary armour tactics and the ineptitude of the Allies, succumbed to megalomania like all great conquerors, considered himself to be a supreme military genius, better than all of his generals, then forced them to obey his nonsensical commands in Russia while completely neglecting the Meditteranean front and simultaneously ignoring the advice of all of his competent commanders.
After operation Barbarossa started massively failing, he didn't even consider that his nonsense orders might have been the problem, and promptly sacked his most competent generals on the Eastern front, replacing them with yes men.
