I'd used to hear a lot of country music from my father, but that was stuff back from the 60s and 70s and such. It actually felt like its own distinct genre.
But modern country music is the same as generic pop music, but with southern accents and subject matters revolving around beer and pickup trucks. So I wouldn't even call it a separate genre. It'd be like saying if you sung pop music with a brooklyn accent, then that's different from the pop genre.
