It's strange. I notice young men in High School and University tend to keep themselves in good shape, but after that, pretty much everyone lets themselves go.
I've been going to the gym for a few months, but I'm definitely not fit enough to fight in a war yet. I can't run for shit and I'm not strong enough to do unassisted pull ups/chin ups yet. Working on it though. I despise laziness and weakness.

We don't have fatties, average height ~180 as well.
Much of the population still lives in rural areas, employed in agriculture, so they're in pretty good shape. Also, abundance of weapons due to recent war and most know how to use them.
The only issue would be that the average age is around 50 now, and it's getting worse. Most of the youth is emigrating.

I did a mile.5 in 13:50, 9 pull ups and 33 sit ups. Gotta do mile.5 in 12.3:30 and 55 sit ups, im good on pull ups to be able to go to USMC basic. U can make it just keep mind over matter and stick to it and you'll get better in no time.

Not every soldiers needs to be built and have high endurance. In the end a slightly overweight person or manlet or a will be just as effective in most stuff. Maybe even more effetective in special situations. The only soldiers that have to have the all around package to be effective are special units.
