It's called wage-slavery. You can't walk away from a job if you'll become homeless or even starve to death. Demand for jobs therefore is fundamentally inelastic. Which potentially gives companies enormous bargaining power. Especially if they work out some wheeze to drop the cost of labour by outsourcing or encouraging mass immigration from poorer nations.
Worse than that however: The Government's intervention in the economy is absolutely necessary. Natural monopolies form, trade distortions appear, sudden shocks can bottom out the market. The Government needs to be there as a guarantor, as an insulator, a lender of last resort, a trust buster and a safety-net for the vulnerable.
Without its presence, the Economy is dangerously unstable, unpredictable and pathologically amoral.
Fiscal Policy always needs to be a tool in the toolbox. Everyone acknowledges that which is precisely why no mainstream economist takes the Austrian school seriously.
