I dunno. I don't like being compared to Sapkowski (I don't like his work at all) and it's quite ironic, because almost all of the people that read my previews go like "Oh jeez, this feels just like Sapkowski".
But I don't think it's hard to be better than him. He's very inconsistent in his narration, he doesn't flesh out characters outside of the traditional hero band, he kills off key characters in shitty ways (even worse than GRRM), the boss fight is just awful, the ending of the saga just sucks.
I'd recommend Dukaj over Sapkowski, but I don't know if his books got translated.
