Anyway, there are two explanations:
1) He had weird political ideas to begin with, got successful with comedy, then could afford to reveal his beliefs or gained enough confidence to display them
2) There's a psychological effect where when a person is given a lot of attention and made to feel important, they become overconfident in their own importance and abilities. This is why movie stars and rock stars so often decide that they have important things to say and become political activists, humanitarians, authors of shitty books, and so on (think Bono, Oprah)
