Don't want to sound arrogant, but banished is easy.
Once you have the basic routine in and get a steady food supply it is easy af. Secondly, there is no real endgame you just get bigger and more powerful.
The only real danger in this game is building to many houses, which creates single households and then leads to a childless and old population.
Man I wish it had more features and goals.

If you play in maximum difficulty, some factions such as cartage or the greek guys with the dog flag can be quite challenging.
Empire is the worse game they ever made. Easy and boring as fuck. Shogun 2 can be hard as fuck as well, as long you dont play with the faction of the southern island.

I liked the vanilla quite a bit. But, it sucks doing historic campaigns, it feels so short (Established the original colonies). But then doing straight up free reign (Non-historic campaigns) feels so long. The map is just so large.
I also thought the Indians would be fun to play around with. They're way too basic and just zerg rush their enemies, which brings me little joy. Except for losing a shit ton of soldiers and seeing their bodies litter the floor.
