Laughing aside we did have nuclear program, the plan was to wrestle more out of Moscow's reach, but alas internal politics screwed things up. It was under Edward Gierek that we tried it but when economy went belly up in 1975 forward, we couldn't afford it, plus internal politics changed, so we let it go. We still have some experimental nuclear reactors, but it's insignificant
Interesting fact btw, West Germany funded wholly Israeli nuke program under "development aid" in 1970's.

Fun fact, but Poland had nukes back in the Soviet times. Poland was one of the few Warsaw Pact countries who was authorized to use Soviet nuclear warheads stockpiled in Poland.

Poland already had a nuclear program in the 70-80's. A Polish scientists even solved how to cleave atoms by laser, thus Poland technically got the tech to set off nukes, but he then was found dead with other scientists from the program. Thanks USSR!
