But it's true though. They bitch about not having good jobs but having massive student loan debt.

Big daddy T is helping you make the choice you SHOULD have made: Liberal Arts majors without good career prospects should only be taken if they can be funded out of pocket, until prices drop due to this lack of demand.
>>
It's really a pointless degree. Maybe 30 or more years ago it made sense because finding that level of education was really difficult. But now you can literally find Yale and Harvard lectures in literature and other liberal arts courses on youtube for FREE. It makes no sense to waste taxpayers' money on shit you can get for free.

good, liberal arts degrees should be the refuge of the stupid with wealthy parents, or those who have enough interest in the subject to go into academia. they should not be for the average lower-middle class kid who thinks he will get a job because of his arts degree, because they will never actually manage to pay off the loan.

I have a liberal arts degree, and I agree with Trump.
A degree is a financial investment and if there is significant evidence to suggest that a liberal arts student will have more difficulty paying back a loan then the loan should be more difficult to get.

>>
It makes sense though, it's a riskier investment for the company giving the loan because they're less likely to pay back their loan. Does somebody with a 500 credit score get the same interest rate on a mortgage as somebody with a 770 credit score?
>>
>>74970085
At least writing is something you will do maybe once a day, an address on an envelope or something.

When the fuck do you have to study a gender queer in your life? These same liberal arts shits are the cliche "I stopped taking math classes psshhh when am I ever gonna use that in the real world"
>>
He's right but it's also sort of sad. If you don't invest in your own culture and fine art, it's going to decline and be replaced by foreign and degenerate forms.

A higher economic standard of living does not necessarily mean a higher quality of life.
>>
>>74969456

When will the "liberal arts are bad XDXDXD" meme die?

Ammianus Marcellinus warned us many years ago of what happens when a retard like Trump becomes leader:

"Lastly, the ultimate disgrace, not long ago, when foreigners were banished in headlong haste from the city because a famine was expected, no respite whatever was granted to professors of the liberal arts, though very few in number, while at the same time the hangers-on of actresses and those who posed as such for the occasion, together with three thousand dancers with their choruses and the same number of dancing instructors, were allowed to remain without even being questioned."

The problem is that universities don't promote any kind of critical thinking anymore. You look at liberal arts 50 years ago and it was a completely different experience.

Now colleges are just indoctrination centers, especially when it comes to liberal arts. Too many people are going to college that shouldn't be there in the first place. It's no longer the intellectual experience that it once was.

That's the thing about art. No school can teach you to draw. You simply have to practice, practice and then practice some more. Sure, it helps to have a teacher around to help you with the common mistakes, but 99% will have to come from yourself, because 99% of what makes a good artist is experience. There's plenty of great materials on the internet for that remaining 1%.

>more tests for promotion, huge pressure to go to the best school
>study your ass off to get into high school
>don't like high school, quit and join the family business no fucks given
>go on and study like hell throughout high school for the college entrance exam
>pass entrance exam great jubilation
>fail and either commit sodoku or try for US school

This is when it fails, because college is basically fuck off for four years while looking for a job. This is changing, particularly when they'll require everyone to major in something that the country needs.

I'm decent in painting and drawing, but my work as a 5-year old was complete shit. Didn't start doing it as a profession either, because got interested in computers and servers more than drawing.

There is no such thing as talent. There's just practice, personal interest and most often starting at an early age.

There's no such thing as talent. Every talented person ever has spent hundreds of thousands of hours at what they do to get good.

Yes, there are exceptions like Mozart but the guy was essentially a mentally crippled kid who could write music really well. Like putting all your points in one tree in an RPG.

I disagree. Color theory in particular and also composition to a degree is something you learn by analyzing the works you like. You'll notice what works and what doesn't. Sure, you could argue that those people you're "copying" from receved an art education as well, but my argument still stands. Nowadays you can become a top notch artist by hard work alone, you don't have to spend one cent.

You obviously haven't seen what happens to a small STEM department when it gets flooded by incompetents, which I had the opportunity to watch by going to a state school for 2 years.

Universities are a business. The customer is always right, and that's the student. When over half the students complain to the administration, "The math department isn't teaching us correctly!" because they can't add 2 and 2, the administrators who don't know shit about mathematics say, "It must be the instructors' faults!" and so the department chair has to lower standards for everyone so their funding doesn't get cut. If they keep their standards high then everyone drops and their funding gets cut anyway. In the former case the department chair looks better ("See how many students we're graduating?") so they go with that.

It's all a business driven by the customer. And I don't want the average math customer to be dumb as bricks driving down standards.
>>
>>74972364
what the fuck
>>
>>74972223
I'd say it isn't talent, it's just interest. If you're not interested enough or you lost interest, you don't gain anything from practicing.

The amount of interest also cuts practice time by a lot. If you are passionate about art, you will want to practice, and you gain skill incredibly fast.

Two people can put in the same amount of practice and effort and still be at different skill levels. It's really not that simple. Some people, due to their natural characteristics, are simply real good at picking up and developing certain skills.

I understand it drives artists mad when people complain about talent because it makes it seem like the artist didn't work real hard and bust his ass to be good but going the other way and completely denying it exists is also retarded.

A liberal arts degree in the current year means you were too dumb for the sciences or business.

That's great. And you know what, you can still do that. No one is stopping you. But I don't want the government dumping trillions into LA student loans so 2% can do something good with them.

Private Banks will still give you all the money you want.
>>
>>74969456
Makes sense.
Instead of paying student loans for retards prevent them from wasting the money in the first place.
>>
>>74970904
The thing is that for centuries it focused on the trivium (grammer, rhetoric, logic) and quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy). The idea is that it would produce someone with knowledge and the desire to pursue it. They would then go on to study or endeavor in other, more practical fields such as theology, architecture, the law, the study of history, etc.

Most of our presidents and great leaders and thinkers throughout history, anyone of any status, tended to undertake that sort of education. But as cultural marxists infiltrated academia, they changed it into more abstract, useless garbage like gender or African-American studies, psychology, sociology, etc.
>>
>>74972758
Of course I have, I've often been the fast learner as well.
That's because I was always interested in all kinds of useless crap which other people didn't give a shit about. I also lose interest fairly quickly which is kinda sad, because I could be very skilled if I found that one thing that could keep me going for years on end.

But if I don't give a fuck about something and I still have to practice it, I'm not going to get any better in it. Most people don't give a shit about most things in life, which is why there are always a few in a group which will shine over the rest of the group, because they're interested in it.

They're not talented, they're just passionate learners. And that's the same thing with artists etc.
>>
>>74972612

>no scholarship, you study at the cheapest local uni

You can't control the amount of effort people put into something, because the other person is bound to be more interested in a subject than the other one is (unless by some one-in-a-million chance they're just as interested, but that can't be found out by any means).

The issue isn't so much what you major in, it's the attitude going into it. A liberal arts degree should confer the following:

>introduction to a broad range of subjects
>ability to examine facts critically
>ability to create logical arguments based on those facts
>ability to appropriately present those arguments

You graduated with a Liberal Arts degree with a focus on History. That doesn't make you a historian. For some reason people aren't counseled in the fact; liberal arts education is the preparatory phase to a broader professional education.

What's the difference? You're just taking the concept of people having a difference in capability to learn and doing your absolute best to avoid calling it talent, when what you're describing is what talent is. Maybe you just dislike people blaming their lack of ability on a lack of talent, but they might as well blame their lack of interest or passion. It's just semantics
