What the fuck kind of fiction did you just cast at me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the tea party, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret meeting with the establishment, and I have over 300 confirmed endorsements. I am trained in speech repetition and I’m the top first term senator in the entire US congress. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before in this campaign, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over Twitter? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of Jew donors and your taxes are being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your campaign. You’re fucking dead, Trump. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can stump you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in debating, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the GOP establishment and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. Building a PC is barely a step above Lincoln Logs.
Any fucking retard can do it.

Grab things, plug them into where they fit, tighten a few screws.

I literally never ask myself this. I just assume everyone knows how fucking retardedly simple it is to assemble a PC.

Then I try explaining it to someone and I am sorely disappointed in humans again.

It really is stupidly easy though. I can't see someone fucking it up until they get into the software installation and bios setup, or maybe fucking up mounting the cpu, or shorting shit out because they weren't grounded.

I stopped assuming people weren't all complete idiots when I started my first job as a technician and after being taught through-hole soldering for the first time with basically a 1 minute explanation of "you put the wire in the hole and touch the solder and iron to it so it sticks" and struggling with having to research shit online myself and not knowing why I kept getting cold solder joints, a fucking week later the guy shows up and finally takes a look at it, can't get it to connect himself, and says "oh... the wires are all corroded and oxidized, no wonder you can't get a good connection. Just cut these back."

The motherfucker just handed a guy who literally never did this sort of thing before corroded wires and left for a week without giving a single fuck. You'd think someone would check that before handing things over to a brand new hire, right?

Nope. Fuck everyone. Just be glad if YOU'RE competent, at least. I shudder to think what someone less capable than myself would have done in my job, and there of course are many more examples over the time I've spent here, but I've learned to check everything out myself first every time, no matter how obvious.

I had to do an informative presentation in college.

The only thing I could explain in steps was how to build a computer.

I swear I was talking at a wall explaining motherboards and shit. Nothing but blank stares even when I was saying "processor is like the brain of the computer," "motherboard is the body that connects it."

Everybody uses computers, but no one has any idea how they work.

Do they not realize how this is actually incredibly racist? They're rewarding a minority and celebrating it as if they can't do it and theyre proud of them like you would be proud of a child or pet. Plenty of young kids build computers but they only celebrate the negro building one because they don't expect them to be able to.

I've been trying to break down where the disconnect occurs when it comes to the average joe not understanding the meat and potatoes of the average PC.

It's incredibly simple, but as soon as you say 'computer', people go blank.

I know this is changing because of the growing builder hobby market and sites like newegg catering to this kinda shit, but most people born before GenX are incapable of understanding it.

Well I mean it'd literally take a fucking second to check the wires, I mean the guy is supposed to be my boss and has worked this job for over a decade.

That's what really gets me. Basically not even really training me aside and leaving me to figure shit out all on my own, he could have saved me a week of hassle by just checking the maybe 4 or 5 things were good to go beforehand

Same shit happened later when I ended up going through a bunch of screws because they kept getting stripped, eventually found out he gave me a worn out driver bit and needed to cut a new one, when I just assumed he gave me all the tools I needed in good condition for the job. Nope, went through a box of fucking screws thinking it was something I was doing wrong, like the angle or how hard I needed to push on the screws or something.

So many things you think are common sense and it's just like, nope. Used to constantly think it was me who was the problem, I must not be doing it right and need to change my process, or develop some skill to do it right. Nope, people are just incompetent. And you can't even complain or anything, because they're higher up than you and you want to keep good relations with them.

You just have to work around incompetence all the time, that's what I've learned above all else. Sorry for the rant but I got triggered for some reason. I really wish I could just rely on people to not be fucking idiots, that common sense was actually common.
>>

HDD size doesn't matter as much as it used to, unless you're doing a lot of gaming or working with a lot of pictures or videos. I have two SSD's, a 240 and a 120, and I use those for pretty much everything. I do have a 1.5 tb regular HDD for storage though.

It's not common. People are idiots. It's easier to just walk through life assuming everyone around you is a fucking moron that can barely function, because for most people it's true.

When you meet a competent person, you get super happy, until you realize they've probably just been assuming you're an idiot too.

Their movies seem like a weird parody of western action movies. They shit on the street without a hint of self awareness. They are weirdly open about emotions yet hate gays. They just dump dead bodies in the Ganges which they also wash in and drink from, yet they seem to be good at maths and science.

It's probably the weirdest country in the world.

People would rather pay someone to pull a lever on your CPU than do it themselves due to fear.

Other people will pay someone to put a little wrench on a truss rod on a guitar and move it by a 1/4 round.

Not him, but usually what you do if you are training someone is teach them the basics and the basics stuff that could fuck up their work. If they don't understand it after a second explanation or a second time doing it by themselves then they are a lost cause and I usually just fire them.

For what he said his boss never told him what the most basic problems he would face were or how to check for them or how to solve them, so I don't see how he could know about them unless he already had experience in the field before hand, but he clearly didn't since he was taught how to weld on his first day.

>It's easier to just walk through life assuming everyone around you is a fucking moron that can barely function, because for most people it's true.

Sadly this is essentially my outlook on life now. Every so often I've tried to just "trust" people on certain things too, but pretty much every time I've been burned. "Oh maybe I can tell my close family member something secret, surely they will keep it in confidence because that's obvious, right? Things have been going well between us lately, I'll try it with something that will be annoying but not that big of a deal if it gets out", cut to them going directly to the fucking person the secret is about and telling them all about it. I mean fuck you, I know you told them, you're the only one I told and obviously once you told them they came to me and bitched me out for lying to them about whatever.

Every fucking time I get burned, it sucks. It sucks having to constantly be a skeptical, cynical asshole, but I have to be, I have no other choice.

>When you meet a competent person, you get super happy, until you realize they've probably just been assuming you're an idiot too.

Nah, there's usually a mutual respect involved in those cases. We probably both assume the other is an idiot at first, but when they actually prove themselves to you in various ways and you do the same to you, you gain that mutual respect of "wow... someone who actually isn't an idiot! Amazing!"

Shitty thing is most of the time I still never trust that they're fully competent though and double check their shit because again, pretty much every time I'm like "oh this guy seems pretty competent I'll just trust they did the thing right and not check it", I get burned for it.

Been in that situation exactly two times so far. I'm 26.
I expect to have it happen 2 or 3 times more and that's it.
Quick sugestion: when you find someone like that, make'em your friend/ally because wether you like him or not, that person might be the only competent guy you'll see for a long, long time.

Yes, basically this. Also I'm a technician, I only have an associates degree in engineering and they don't teach you technical stuff like soldering there. Just stuff like calc through differential equations, chemistry x2 and calc-based physics x3, engineering courses like thermo and strength of materials, english, computer shit like CADD and C++, and some electives (which I use for stuff like micro economics).

One of the major reasons I took the job was so I could learn to solder. Basically ended up teaching myself how to do it while being left to my own devices for a 40 hours a week for a month using the internet and practice/experimentation. A lot of this job has been that way, just given some tools and a task and left to figure it out yourself. Thank god I actually have good critical thinking and deduction skills, is all I can say.

While an 11 year old building a PC isn't news worthy, at least he did it. It's believable he bought the parts, the tower, and build a PC.
This opposite of that little lying cunt from last year who got millions in free shit, trips, tv/radio appearances, and was even put on a pedestal over kid who really are smart as fuck and build things. This picture still makes my blood boil. All those kids actually made technology with their own know how while he's put up front like a boy genius.
So This Whizzkid maybe be getting blow out of proportion by that paper but it could be worse.

>so I could learn to solder

So youre not a know it all, hmm maybe the tech thought you were the idiot but didnt say shit cause you were new
>>
>>74853137

Explained it here: >>74853394
But I didn't know oxidization was even a thing I needed to check for because I *literally* never soldered before in my life.

And I did tell my boss but in general you'll find in real world jobs, your bosses don't want to be bothered for the most part, they have their own shit to do. They don't baby you or hand hold you, looking over your shoulder all day. They often barely even train you at all if you're even that lucky.

I thought it was something with my technique, boss pretty much just told me to try using more solder. Only got him to try it himself after a week because that's how infrequently your boss checks on you in the real world because they really don't give a shit and have their own work to do.

My connections still ended up working in the end though interestingly enough, my guess is that I used enough solder so that the flux in it cleared enough of the oxidization to make a decent connection, even though it looked like a globby mess.

>Quick sugestion: when you find someone like that, make'em your friend/ally because wether you like him or not, that person might be the only competent guy you'll see for a long, long time.

Of course. That's usually not even a problem because that mutual respect of two competent people working together and doing good work tends to lend itself to a friendship naturally.

Don't want to sound paranoid here, but it sounds like your boss, or whoever left you to figure out what to do on your own, was a douchebag and did it on purpose so he could try and act superior over you.

You get alot of those insecure fuckhead types that WANT you to screw up, so it makes them look needed.

They're the worst, and they're usually embedded into the positions like parasites. Sucks that you couldn't have asked him why he screwed you to begin with because he was your boss.

What a dickweed.

>"so you're not a know it all"

You get alot of this moronic behavior when you're new and overqualified. The old guard hates young kids that are smarter than they are and will always try to fuck their work up.
>>
>>74853696
>So youre not a know it all

Correct. And he knew beforehand that I had never soldered before.

The thing that bothers me about it is checking the wires for oxidization for someone who's done the job a million times seems like it would be obvious when training a complete newbie, and it takes literally a fucking minute to check and make sure any oxidized part is cut off and it's all set for soldering.

What pisses me off is that it's such a simple obvious thing that's extremely easy to check and fix for someone who's been doing it for years, and yet the guy just fucking -didn't-. Which means from now on I can't trust anything I get from the guy because something might be broken or fucked up, so I have to check everything myself even if it's a task I've never done before, understand where I'm coming from?

idk how else to explain it in simpler terms. Basically he's either an asshole who just didn't give a fuck to make sure everything was in order, or worse an idiot who didn't even think to check that in the first place. That's the problem.

desu the "boss" has pretty shitty inventory handling if assembly parts are reaching the floor in an oxidized condition

its no different if it was being done by hand or loaded into a machine - the machine woulda fucked it up too

not saying the tech is not a dumbass for pointing it out - but the boss is more culpable in this instance

proper sourcing, proper storage, proper handling

at one of my sustaining jobs we had a floor supervisor leaving open-frame relays just sitting about with shit stacked on top of them, and wondered why we had 40% fail rate post-assembly - damage was already done before the solderers picked them from the bins
>>
>>74853774
Cool rock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House?
>>
>>74853930

Nah, in all honesty I think he's just an incompetent idiot who didn't even think to check the wires in the first place. He got just as pissed off as me when he tried doing it himself after the first week, even swearing like "fuck, goddammit piece of shit!" when he was getting cold solder joints like I was, which finally led him to check the wires finally and be like "oh...."

So probably a combination of incompetence and laziness. Like I said, these people have their own jobs/work to do. They want to spend the minimal amount of time needed with new hires so they can go back to their own shit, it sucks. But hey, it beats blue collar manual labor, and pays a lot better too, so I deal with it.

On the other hand it's nice because I'm pretty autonomous. The guy leaves and goes to another building and only checks up on me once a week, sometimes longer, usually just to make sure I'm testing the number of parts I'm supposed to and the data is all legit. I can get the parts all done in only 5 hours, so I pretty much get 3 hours to do whatever I want with like study (been working while going to school), take hour-long lunches where I can go for a walk outside afterwards, play hearthstone, or just generally chill out.

So it has it's good and bad points. Once you get used to dealing with idiots and just assuming everyone around you is incompetent, it's actually pretty sweet imo.

You should do a little research on how much thermal paste to use and make sure it has the correct pins for the mobo etc, which I'm sure you must have know before buying it anyways.

Mistakes happen, but don't be afraid to do it yourself. My very first PC build, I was a fucking idiot and didn't check the voltage the PSU was set to before I tested it. It was set to a foreign voltage and my board literally caught on fire.
