Obviously, they didn't kill everyone, hence why they are called survivors. Also, the Jews had no idea who was going to be killed next. The survivors were the only ones that could actually survive. The Nazis picked and chose randomly who would live and who would die. Most of the time they killed Jewish workers if they were too old, we're sick, or had any handicap/any other issues that prevented them from working. But then there were times where Nazis would just randomly kill Jewish workers for fun. There would be no reason behind it, which is why most of the elderly survivors you see today are considered to be survivors because of the game of Russian Roulette that was played with their lives every day in the Holocaust.
