I am a doctor and I work with a lot of doctors, and they seem ashamed to use Dr. instead of Mr. and when being addressed by students they insist on being called by their first name.
The state goes insane in making sure there are not "classes" of people. You cannot be rich here, and they claim to have great standards of living. However, my standard of living here is much less than when I was living in the US. The standard of living for the upper middle class in Norway is similar to the standard of living for lower middle class in the US.

I grew up lower middle class in America and we never ate out, only wore hand-me-downs and thrift shop shit, anything resembling a snack had to be made from scratch from 20-lb bags of flour and sugar bought on sale, and the first time we had a TV big enough for the living room was when a client handed us off one because they thought it was broken (until then we had a 25" fat CRT, this was the mid-00s). We managed well because we were crafty with our money and knew how to make the most with cheaper generic brands, but I had quite a few hungry days or times when I felt bad inadequate because of my cheap clothing or lack of things like game systems or other toys that my classmates had.

Things are becoming much cheaper now days. The average upper class Norwegian I work with owns or rents half of a larger house, small house, or a condo.
Lower middle class in the US now usually have 1 moderate sized TV and 1 moderate priced computer. That is standard for here. Most people here have minimal appliances. Small economy dishwashers and usually a washer but no dryer. The houses are much smaller and it cost too much to keep them maintained at a US suburb modern standard. Thus they all kind of look a little worn.
Food and luxury items are the biggest divider of lower and upper class. In Norway, you cannot find fine foods and alcohol in most places, and those you can it cost an insane amount more (luxury tax here is insane). Want a car? The tax is insane. The luxury taxes over inflate the cost of anything that is not considered a necessity to the point that you simply cannot increase your standing to the equivalent that you could in the US.

Cars tend to be expensive everywhere, it's only in America that they have to be affordable because the car industry took over, killed public transit, and made the expectation that everyone should get a car. Because of a century operating that way, the second-hand market is huge and thus everyone can manage to get a car, even if the upkeep is hell. Most people in Asia prefer smaller vehicles and bigger vehicles are heavily taxed. But it's hard for me to compare having a car in one country to having it in another, because the dependence on cars in America meant extremely indefinite and sometimes terribly inefficient transportation when I lived in the suburb, versus now when I can find a bus or train to anywhere at any time, or just grab a taxi for pocket change if I really need to.
Now I have to ask you, do you live in a suburb or a city? Try to have a large house and car in a major city in America, especially with a lower-middle income.
