End common core. Fire shitty teachers. Kick unmotivated kids out of the classroom.
>>
Strip power of teachers unions. At my highschool back then, they gave teachers tenure after TWO FUCKING YEARS. So all the shit teachers wound up being unreplaceable. I'd much rather those teachers get kicked so new teachers could be implemented immediately to raise the kids quality of education.

This. The real issue is trying to make everyone feel good. Fuck off, they're supposed to be getting educated. Not everyone is equal. Punish kids who fuck up and congratulate those who succeed. Idiots go to the idiot class.

I saw some old O-level papers, which have now been replaced by GCSEs, and my god, some of the stuff was almost college tier in the O-levels. The GCSE ones had tables where you had to count images of flowers.

that would just fudge up numbers to make it look like everybody is getting a better education, but in reality the bottom of the barrel is just getting drained away while not affecting the quality of everybody above the bottom line's education.

We NEED a way to be able to fire teachers but they have a strangehold on the system.

What are you talking about? America has an excellent education system. The education is Excellent for the elite and minimal (also filled with propaganda) to the hoi polloi. Similar to your oxbridge-eton/publicschool vs rest of the pleb masses.

I think that is the brilliance of the anglo system. They seperate the elite from the mob from the start.

I took my IGCSEs in English, Latin, History, Science and Maths, 7 or 8 years ago. They were simple as hell and I passed all of 'em, I didn't even bloody study for the exams.

I was actually amazed on how stupid most of my english classmates were. They were actually struggling to pass two GCSE's and they were worrying about not going to a better college.

Hell, after my results came in, I was instantly accepted into 5 different schools and some of my classmates were still pending.

>Education in the hands of the state
>Teachers unions need to be nerfed, not abolished, they just shouldn't have the jurisdiction they do now.
>Start granting states larger funding for education, allowing them to create much larger scale schools, so they can conglomerate students across several counties, rather than each little podunk getting it's own school. This allows for the students to get a better, more focused education, because only a small group of elite teachers will be assigned to one super-school

Common Core isn't that bad.

The problem is that teachers are too incompetent to build a lesson plan around the standards, which place emphasis on ensuring that the students grasp the concepts behind the symbols instead of memorizing steps without context.

The teachers then blame the standards for their own failures, and the parents believe them because they don't know how to build a lesson plan either.

These retarded worksheet screenshots don't come from any official "Common Core method", the teachers are the ones making this more difficult than it needs to be, because they got caught up in passing around lesson plan templates to each other instead of developing an effective approach.

Well considering the kid's reasoning ,the only way 4/6 of Marty's pizza to be bigger than 5/6 of Luis' pizza is by having the former to be a bigger pizza.
Let's say Marty's pizza is worth 2PU (pizza units) and Luis' 1PU
2*(4/6) = 1.3PU eaten
1*(5/6) = 0.8PU eaten
So fat Marty indeed ate more pizza ,and has more remaining

Every year my school district votes on the budget for the following year. They post the changes to spending on the district site.

EVERY FUCKING YEAR, without fail, every spending increase goes to salaries. Teachers, administrators, even the superintendent (who makes $200k doing absolutely nothing), etc. If anything is cut, it's to field trips, new books, new equipment. Then the teachers have the gall to try to tell the parents that the spending increases are "for the children".

It's been like this for the last 6 or 7 years when they started having budget issues shortly after the recession hit. This year was my first time voting (a few days ago) and I very gladly vote no. These prissy self-important teachers can fuck themselves. Kill the unions and make teaching respectable again

Show the world that Common Core isn't bad. All the examples posted on reddit are just random worksheets with no context; if anything they just show a single teacher's incompetence. Furthermore, Common Core does not make, distribute, or publish any worksheets or textbooks. It's the Jew textbook companies like Pearson who are at fault. They shill out "Common Core" materials as fast as they can to districts for ultimate shekels. They are to blame. I invite you to actually read through Common Core standards.

>>
Never understood why you guys keep on struggling with the Educational System in your countries.

Most of the americans I have met in highschool (American Community School in London) were uneducated as fuck. Basically, their general knowledge of the world was screwed as hell, they knew nothing about the geography of Europe, nothing about the history of Europe, nothing whatsoever.

Back in Romania, from the 5th grade up until the 12th grade, school kids usually have in between 14-15 different classes (Romanian, English, French/German, History, Geography, Music Lessons, Religion Lessons, Technology, Physics, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Latin, Civics/Ethics/Philosophy and a few others).

All of the kids are required to take all of those classes up until the 10th grade. When you reach the 10th grade, you need to choose wether you want to follow the Humanistic side or the Math/Biology etc side.

Nonetheless, you have to study the fuck out of your life in order to pass those classes and we have National Exams in the 5th grade, 8th grade and 12th grade (Baccalaureate).

>mfw my american peers we're learning about triangles in geometry in the 8th grade
>mfw in Romania, we do fractions from the 4th-5th grade, and in the 8th grade we already work with formulae and differential ecuations and whatnot

Looks like we should stop letting education majors hold the reins over our childrens' lived experience for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. kek.

I remember being young and thinking I was learning from a God.. Aristotle himself has graced me with the opportunity to learn about the greatest epochs or most simplistically beautiful equations.

Then I hit 7th grade and I felt embarrassed for them. They're usually shitty, stupid people who want to shove their bullshit liberal politics down your throat. Public service workers have always been considered noble and selfless, wonderful people.

That is the problem.

Teachers are not necessary, public schools are not necessary.

Teachers teach concepts that 5th graders can understand. They aren't geniuses, they aren't heroes and they aren't special.

They're fucking babysitters and they are paid way too much already.

We need to get it through our heads that teachers aren't irreplaceable.

Tenure is an abomination. It is traditional, and tradition is one of the most stupid concepts ever thought up my man. The idea that "We're going to resist change and do what we've been doing solely because that's what we've always done." is fucking moronic.

It's like you live in a parallel reality.

More and more "accountability" measures are being implemented with each passing day (Common Core is a part of that), unions are getting busted, and experienced teachers are getting replaced with fresh-out-of-college scabs through agencies like Teach for America.

And things aren't getting better. The bullshit standardized tests that teachers teach for are coming back lower. Your slimy neoliberal scheme doesn't create lasting results. Turns out that treating education like a fast food business wasn't such a great idea after all.

America is similar to Australia, they're probably just a little worse. We will soon follow them though, we always do. The problem is too many dumb, majority female, teachers who don't know anything. Curriculum is watered down in terms of useful knowledge and over complicated with bureaucracy and arbitrary testing standards every year. Declining standards and results in literacy and STEM courses for decades, basic grammar and mathematics is beyond many students now. But the priority in Australia seems to be trying to enforce leftist propaganda about transexuals and other deviants on primary students, I wish I was joking. Higher education is becoming a joke, basically dominated by females studying pointless degrees and cheating foreign students with their money that the universities are now completely dependent on.

To improve the system I would say raise the standard for teachers and encourage more males to join. Focus on teaching the basic things like literacy and numeracy skills. Stop with the constant and ridiculous tests for primary and high school students. Exams should only be required for people wanting to gain entry into further education to make sure they reach the standards. I'm sure there are many more things that can be done, I don't really think it is a funding problem.
>>
>>74554803
This is pretty counterintuitive though. 7 should be add to the 26. Then you just memorize 33 and add 10 to it.

Children should be taught to perform calculations in their mind they way they do it on paper. That's why nowadays nobody knows how to do maths

I blame our fucking shitty focus on ourselves. I had 4yrs of high school history taught to me where world war 1 and 2 were glossed over and the remaining 4yrs focusing on all 100yrs of this nations great history. We spent an entire chapter learning about a horse than won a lot of races in the early 1900s because this country had shit all else to focus on apart from that and guilt tripping over aboriginals. I imagine Americans have the same issue where their curriculum focuses only on them and themselves, barely touching on other shit unless it ties in with them again.

I almost want to be a teacher myself, because I could just create worksheets from scratch and illustrate the concepts thoroughly with a whiteboard and a projector that can receive input from a tablet, where the kids don't even need a textbook.

That's the biggest problem with our K-12 education system. Textbooks. They're absurdly large because they're designed to do what the teacher should be doing in class.

That's so fucking sad it hurts. How in the hell are you not teaching your kids about the worlds history?

I'll tell ya something funny: from the 1st grade-4th grade, we were usually taught about our own history. From the 5th grade to the 7th grade, we study ONLY world history, focusing on all the continents, starting from Europe and ending with the American civil wars and whatnot. In the 8th grade we study our own history again, because we have an exam that usually focuses on that.

In high-school, we study world history + our own history. That goes with every other class, from Geography, History, Modern Literature and so on. Basically, we are being taught EVERYTHING about EVERYONE, then we are tested in National Exams. If you fail the National Exam, you won't be able to get into High-School, and that usually means you have to re-take the exam the next year, leaving you with one year to reflect on how stupid you god damn are.

It's a shame, actually. I mean, that's what schools are supposed to do, teach the kids about the fucking world, not just their own bloody country.

Unions work pretty well in australia; you guys have laws that prevent unions from raising their pay without showing increases in productivity to justify it, and likewise the employer can't go reducing wages willy nilly without showing dropping productivity to justify it. This is why you still have some of the highest wages in the world.

This process incentivizes the union members to actually increase productivity, and gives them safety from an unscrupulous employer.

It's the sort of thing that should be adopted everywhere: Union pay tied to measurable worker productivity and merits.

Also, reading about Teacher Unions and how they are getting paid quite good ... I'm laughing my ass off.

Teachers in Romania usually start with the minimum salary/month and they will be on that salary for more than 5-10 years. Do you know what that means? 200-250 euros per month, and you're being redistributed in random schools across Romania, meaning that if you finished University in Bucharest, they will probably send you as a teacher in a rural back-sided village in Romania, with a population of about 250 people.

tl;dr: our teachers have the minimum salary for many, many years, yet they still manage to teach something.
Teacher Unions do not exist, and if they do, they do not represent the interests of the teachers
Teachers get distributed randomly, meaning that a novice teacher from Bucharest will never actually teach in Bucharest during his forming years as a teacher.

And yet we still study ten times harder than you do.

Number 4 is WHOLLY incorrect. McDonald v. Illinois, 561 U.S. 742, holds that the second amendment is enforceable against the states.

ALL constitutional rights are enforceable against the states, in fact. This principle descended from the Slaughterhouse cases and is why we have these 14th Amendment issues popping up in every state.

Jesus Christ I'm upset. Why would only ONE amendment NOT be enforceable against the states? Oh, right, because "It's so different and abnormal."

Even Heller's "historical analysis" makes it clear that the core of the amendment is the right to self-defense, not even what you use to defend yourself.

I fucking wish mate. It would be wonderful to learn Australian history in a year (as it can easily be taught in) then follow that with a year on each continent then a return to Australia. A damn shame how clueless schooling left me in regards to the world. When I was 18 I didn't know the French were even involved in the American civil war. Downright shameful.

Your school seems to be able to kick students arses because you people haven't adopted this issue of "everyone one is a winner and no one should fall behind". When you don't have this attitude you're able to tell the kid who got 49.9% on his exam to fuck off an repeat the exam next year. When you're ruthless like this you help those going ahead by removing the fat and help those falling behind by making them know their shit before advancing. My class had some brain dead blokes who just drifted year to year until the end.

Just wait until your country "progresses". We had a university advertising for females only as it felt it's math department was too male centric. This is the future you have to look forward to, achieving cosmic balance in the work force that perfectly represents gender and race for this is when we will hit peak productivity. I hate the fact that in this country, failure is totally acceptable. At the end of the school year, people are always going "got 3 C's and 2 B's in my GCSE so fucking happy" or "Passed level 2 public services so stoked". It's fucking pathetic. The education system gives you every opportunity to get an A in at least 10 subjects, but people think that C's and B's are good.

It's fucking pathetic. Schools need to encourage everyone to get A's, so that people don't just accept shitty grades and think they're smart.

Ok I can't see any more. No kids so it doesn't fucking matter, but now I understand why the world grinds to a halt when the power goes out and no one can calculate change.

Dear Dad, thank you for getting me the fuck out of this country at an early age to give me perspective, and supplementing education where necessary. See I ended up on 4chan!

Make America great again folks.

Shrinking class sizes would be more advantageous than making fuck huge, multi-county schools. It would require more teachers, but the standards teachers are held to needs to be raised regardless.

Where I am, coaches need to be kicked out of teaching positions. I'm not kidding about this, coaches are teach almost every class including AP courses. So they set up slid projectors and walk out of the classroom after saying "Copy this and turn it in."

Then you end up with the state standardize tests that are required to advance a grade or graduate. I don't argue against the tests, they are fuck easy, but the teachers go full retard. The functionally illiterate, hungover/stoned kids passed with perfect grades. All of them. Turns out they had gotten pictures of the answer sheet from my teacher. She wouldn't turn them in to the principal who was required to report and expel them. No instead she modified the grades of everyone who cheated, letting even those who had been failing pass.

Dept. of Education makes it a federal offense to not force children to attend schools.

Parents actually go to jail over that shit. Not everyone can home-school. School's have been indoctrination centers since the 1920s.

You can't make your child sit and learn his tables, that would be so barbaric and patriarchic, and the teacher would scream rape.

American teaching confuses me, were i a kid under that system i would just give up trying to learn anything from schools about math due to all the special considerations making math process for even the simplest problems be a longer, more complex mess than it needs to be.

>being this intentionally retarded even though you JUST explained how the ATAR grades shit before.
There will ALWAYS be a 'disgusting' amount of people who get low marks for an ATAR style grading system. Even if you got a fucking mark of 10 you could still be Einstein tier if everyone above you was even smarter than that.
Idiot.

I was in an art store last weekend, and someone actually said

>twelve times four is. . .
>. . .uh
>to the person I was with: sweet jesus

Ok, even if you haven't memorized them, you can memorize the sequence. Listen to schoolhouse rock and learn the song ("Little Twelve Toes" in this case).

At the very least you'd have the answer relatively fast.

I was made to memorize that shit starting in kindergarten. I hated every minute of it I tell you, but when I transferred schools and no kids could factor or recognize roots without a calculator I was happy. But not for long. As soon as my dad found out how crappy the school was I was transferred to be educated by the Nuns.

I took two further maths A-Levels 10 years ago and scored 100% in many of the modules, 95% overall. Not that hard if you study to the exams (do lots of past papers). I felt cheated with the grade A, given that the cut off is only 80%. There was no room for distinction.

Then first year at uni (physics) only repeated what was in the further maths. What a waste of time.

I gave up learning about anything in school.

The education system is retarded. I didn't have the best childhood so I wasn't coming to school with the right attitude. I slipped into a depression after a while, never graduated, and everything I know I've had to learn on my own.

Most teachers are young fresh-out-of-uni women who just lose their shit when you can't grasp something. I didn't learn anything after I entered in to high school.

I actually had to fucking educate myself from year 6 to year 12, then hunt down university professors and leech knowledge off of them. I can do graduate level math now, no thanks to any school I went to.

It's retarded mate. Seriously. If you don't fit into their little mould, they scream at you for a bit then throw you into the reject bin.

We need major changes. Kids are dropping out of schools at a retarded rate, and most of them are going to end up as druggies, laborers, or John Does in the damn morgue. I didn't want this for my country.

I was a shit student. I got poor grades but never felt okay with it, I just lacked motivation. It wasn't until I got into University (that i barely got into; basically they threatened to cut the department's funding so the head just accepted ahitloads of applicants so they University no longer had a valid reason to cut its funding) that I started working for my grades and going for A's. Ended up missing out on a first by the skin of my teeth, but the point is that I was at least trying then. School just made me so apathetic to everything.

>common core
The idea of a "common core" education is a good one. Most western countries have a set of topics students must be familiar with and skills they must learn. It's usually not set down to the detail level in subjects such as literature, language and history.
But I trust the Americans are more than capable of fucking up something as simple as a that.

Texas public school experienced here.

Lack of unions doesn't prevent tenure, incompetence exists at every level. Only thing it depresses is the ability for actvisit and inspired teachers to advocate for change when they see fit. I.e. having some ground to stand on when a school district passes terrible curriculum or when the governor spends federal funding on oil subsidies instead of education when it was ordered to spend on education. The teachers have no power and can be pushed around by the GOP machine here.

Also teachers earn horrible wages, only lowly educated and "safety job" workers ever become teachers. No incentive to become Teacher in Texas.

Lastly, there's not enough academic pressure to bring the struggling kids out of their ignorant mindset. Dealt with this a lot in a high minority school, also low income myself.

Higher Ed needs to be more accessible with less luxury to reduce costs.

That's not what their common core means. Their's is that they drag everyone down to retard level and force them to learn in the same fucked up way. Its not something like "every student must learn english, history, maths and geography", its "every student must learn in this way".

We implement the chinese system of education. At the start everyone starts off the same, however when students go to middle school, they are split into tiers, the low achievers, the decent achievers and the high achievers, and sent to different schools. At the start of high school, these tiers are further split. If a student doesn't reach at least middle tier for school, they don't get any consideration for college.

Also bring back discipline for school. Students need to fear teachers and not act like baboons.

I think this problem is meant for the student to turn 8+5 into 10+3 but it's still stupid shit that's impractical while being very poorly worded.
>>
The main problem is the bloated buearacracy of the school system. It's not the teachers being paid too much or having too much tenure, it's all the useless office positions in each district which waste time and money implementing the newest liberal trends they've read and making schools completely change their systems around to apply them every year. There's also way too much testing because people are so focused to pumping out statistics they they neglect to remember why kids are even learning in the first place.

I live in a wealthy area, and all of our public school teachers are required to have a master's in their subject (no MAs teaching physics). The problem is they're paid the same as a receptionist, if they're lucky. This means that no one can live in the county they teach in OR the only people who do teach are housewives.

There's a very serious shortage of STEM teachers, as you can imagine.

It's the same everywhere.

>Teachers are not necessary, public schools are not necessary.
Very few people are capable of being autodidacts, and not that many parents are capable of teaching their children more than basic reading and basic maths. But I recon you yanks won't need more skills than that, once you get your menial industrial jobs back (hah!) under Trump.
