It's a film where an Angry Bird gets sent to a tolerance and anger management camp after he flips out at work.
Later on he meets a couple of other Angry Birds and one day a couple of Pigs on ships who look like Muslims come by.
The rest of the Birds are nice to their guests and want to help and protect them, but the Angry Birds are the only ones who question it.
Later even the police attack the Angry Birds for being rude to the guests, and millions of Pigs go onto the Birds land and start taking the Birds eggs.
Later on the Birds follow them around and realize the Pigs have a plan to blow up the Birds after taking their eggs so the Birds decide to get the Mighty Eagle a giant Eagle bird that looks like Trump to help them out.
In the end the Birds wind up showing the rest of the birds that the Pigs are bad and the Birds go and kick the Pigs off their island and take the eggs back and bomb the Pigs.

The Oval Office looks like a business tycoon’s mansion in a soap opera, and every shot of a building exterior or rushing ambulance appears to have been bought from Getty or Shutterstock. The surreal side effect of the wall-to-wall use of licensed stock footage—much of it featuring passersby—is that it makes it seem as though no one cares that half of London’s landmarks have been blown up and all of Europe’s heads of state are dead.
While our intrepid heroes head down a succession of dim corridors and narrow streets, the movie cuts to overqualified supporting actors—including Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, and Robert Forster—so they can stare at a screen and say the plot out loud. (As it turns out, it’s possible to write something that will sound like garbage even when spoken in Freeman’s sonorous voice.) It’s difficult to imagine that even an ideal audience—i.e., people who harbor fantasies of being best friends with a president who’s willing to kick some ass, and also believe that today’s action movies don’t feature enough knife fighting—would find much to get excited about in London Has Fallen. For a movie that is so fixated on letting Banning inflict pain on the enemies of the West, it’s surprisingly squeamish about gore, qualifying for an R rating only on account of a few too many stilted fucks.

What viewers get instead is an ersatz approximation of a violent power fantasy: Banning glowering uncontrollably as masked thugs of implied Middle Eastern origin lunge at him and are killed just out of frame, leading President Asher to yelp out some variation on “Jesus, Mike! Did you have to kill that guy?” before being reminded that yes, he did. And so they trudge on, indifferently framed by Najafi’s camera, which serves only to prove that a truly bad director doesn’t need shaky handheld or rapid cuts to make incoherent action.

Raining vengeful cheese on the enemies of the USA and her allies, Gerard Butler packs his best Liam Neeson squint to defend the British capital single-handedly in London Has Fallen. A follow-up to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen, which surprised the world with a $168m take, this is the love-child of The Bodyguard and Taken, and, indeed, can be equally entertaining in much the same preposterous way – at least in its early parts. But creepy “send them back to Fuckheadistan” sentiment overwhelms London Has Fallen’s guilty pleasures, its meaty violence and xenophobic nastiness giving the cheddar an unpleasant aftertaste.
Opening globally this weekend, London Has Fallen is unlikely to win over many critics, but neither did its sire, which laughed all the way to the bank. Carrying a 15 rating in the UK, this is a tub-thumping assault with iffy racist undertones which looks, by its final sequences, very much like a video game and ends with the rallying words: “God Bless The USA!”. Word-of-mouth could be tepid.
By the end, though, it’s Gerard Butler in a subterranean soundstage in Bulgaria, delivering one-liners including “I’m thirsty as fuck!” for laughs as he bloodily impales squadrons of leering Asians. It’s hard to read which demographic London Has Fallen is aiming for – right-wing militias? – but even they’re likely to come out feeling a little grubby after the film mines Twin Towers paranoia to get to a climax with a threatened decapitation for its cheap kicks. “We live in a dangerous world and have few good options,” says Freeman: this appears to be the excuse for a spree of killing that makes Taken look like an Amnesty International mission statement.
Presidential protection agent Mike Banning (Butler, producing through his G-Base) may be made of “bourbon and bad choices”, but he’s about to become a father and is on the point of tendering his letter of resignation when the UK’s Prime Minister suddenly dies.

World leaders assemble – from a female German premiere (ruthlessly gunned down by smirking Muslims) to an Italian prime minister with a sexy young girlfriend (“Madonna, que suceso!?”). It’s certainly a surprise to all – viewers included — when British bobbies and ambulance men turn their guns on the leaders and the capital descends into a 9/11 chaos. Air raid sirens sound. Then a TV newsreader declares that “terror attacks have decimated most of the known landmarks of the British capital” (what exactly is an unknown landmark?) to bring us back to the cold reality of another 50 minutes to go wth this silly film.
Logistically, London Has Fallen is impressive for its class, shooting in Rajasthan for the prologue, Millenium’s Nu Boyana studios in Bulgaria where Mayfair and Soho were recreated (not that the film seems to know the difference between the two), in Pinewood and on location in London and around the UK’s home counties. Even if it feels a little geographically muddled, though, the shots are fairly seamless and London Has Fallen is not one of those films which is so CGI-laden it’s cartoonish.
If only the same could be said for its characters. Seqences with Banning’s wife (played by Radha Mitchell) and impending fatherhood are a failed attempt to give the agent a personality, someone the audience can root for past Americans and Brits vs. faceless muslim villains. Banning’s domestic situation feels more like a plot device for the inevitable sequel, though, his child destined to be kidnapped in Paris - or wherever has the best tax rebate when the next Fallen comes around.

Jesus Christ. This is the last thing we need right now. Our country is on the verge of electing an idiot who wants to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., not to mention wall off our borders, in an election that’s bred xenophobia as it’s politicized terrorist attacks, and this is what Hollywood’s decided to serve up? London Has Fallen is terrorism porn, an alarmist, jingoistic piece of CGI-soaked garbage that implores its audience to fear nothing after sensationalizing the slaughter of innocents and the destruction of a major city.
London Has Fallen, however, is helmed by Swedish director Babak Mohammad Najafi (Easy Money: Hard To Kill), who flails when tossed into the winding streets and dim tunnels of downtown London. The story is equally unwieldy, with President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) attending the British Prime Minister’s funeral alongside an assemblage of world leaders. Of course, this is simply a set-up for an impossibly complicated terrorist attack perpetrated by Middle Eastern terrorists whose motive for such widespread slaughter–major landmarks are destroyed, as are thousands of citizens and tourists–laughably, inconceivably simple. Asher survives the initial attacks, and once again it’s up to Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) to shepherd the Head of State to safety.

Banning, it needs to be said, is a monster. Yes, he’s our hero, but dude kills people constantly. He kills when it’s not necessary. He is the opposite of Batman. He is Nathan Drake: he shoots and stabs living, breathing humans one second and cracks gay jokes the next. Yes, I know that sounds so-bad-it’s-good, but London Has Fallen is so relentlessly serious in every other aspect that satire, camp, or even the mildest moral conundrum have nowhere to bloom. When Banning slowly sinks his knife into a faceless, nameless terrorist, we’re expected to cheer. When he calls their (unnamed) country “Fuckheadistan”, we’re expected to cheer. When he screams at a soon-to-be-slaughtered Arab, “You’ve been trying to kill us forever!”, we’re expected to cheer. Banning’s tacked-on B-story is that he’s about to be a father, and all I could think the entire time was that this kid’s getting a dagger in his soft, pink flesh the first time he cries. Also, that when Asher’s out of office he’s absolutely voting for Donald Trump.
Najafi is a Middle Eastern refugee, so you’d think the Middle Eastern characters would be given some measure of depth, some subtle hook of empathy to hang your heart upon. Instead, he humanizes the villains by putting one in a wheelchair and casting a great actor in another–as ringleader Kamran, Waleed Zuaiter finds pathos in even the most thinly written character. But, good actors or no, the same terrorists who were able to bypass the world’s most stringent security measures are also uncovered by a few taps on a keyboard. When they touch on legitimately interesting concerns about drone strikes and innocent lives lost, they’re as disregarded by the filmmakers as much as the characters.

But London Has Fallen’s problems aren’t limited to its xenophobia and jingoism. It’s also just ugly to look at. Najafi doesn’t create a single memorable tableau, not even when destroying London’s most identifiable structures. Thankfully, there’s less CGI blood than in Olympus Has Fallen–there’s hardly any blood at all, surprisingly, despite all the mass murder–but every launched missile or crashing helicopter looks divorced from the environment it occupies. You can almost see the pixels.
What London Has Fallen does have is a stacked cast. Returning alongside Butler and Eckhart are Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Jackie Earle Haley, and Robert Forster, a gaggle of Academy Award winners/nominees who, in this movie, could not possibly be asked to do any less. And Butler? He’s a racist caveman, a brutish and single-minded one-man slaughterhouse.
All that said, London Has Fallen certainly isn’t boring. Ugly and infuriating? Absolutely. But not boring. If you can stomach Butler’s sadism and atrocious one-liners, many of the film’s action set pieces whiz by with a bang. There’s also a few twists that, despite being obvious, are fun to watch unfold. But that doesn’t make up for the film’s nauseating raison d’etre, which advocates wholeheartedly for violence and demolition. Should it score another sequel, it’s sure to come on the heels of whatever terrorist group hits the headlines next.

Now Asher and Banning are on the run in a locked-down London because the bad guys want to capture the president and execute him live on the Internet. Because that could happen.
London Has Fallen isn’t a movie: it’s a Nuremberg rally for 21st-century America in which drone warfare is righteous because swarthy brown terrorists are almost supernaturally powerful, and yet also ultimately no match for the U! S! A! U! S! A! It is laughably beyond preposterous, all the security lapses in every single British service, from MI-6 right down to the NHS ambulance corps, that is required for the army of angry anti-Western but primarily anti-American terrorists to pull off stupendously coordinated multiple attacks across a geographically sprawling world city. Of course, the Brits are not American; all the pitying glances and asides thrown around by the likes of Secret Service director Lynn Jacobs (Angela Bassett: Survivor, This Means War) for her U.K. counterparts are akin to that of a patient parent generously tolerating the best efforts of a slow but beloved child. Isn’t it cute how the Brits are trying? So sweet of them. Even though the script — by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt (who together wrote Olympus Has Fallen and contributed to The Expendables 3), Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart), Chad St. John — has Asher calling the U.K. “our oldest and strongest ally” (although he’s wrong: that would be France), London still feels comfortable lobbing huge insults in that direction… but then again, the big bully always knows it can get away with kicking its best toady. I wonder if this is why even some among the British cast here — such as Colin Salmon (Doctor Who, The Bank Job) as one of the security honchos and Charlotte Riley (In the Heart of the Sea, Edge of Tomorrow) as an MI-6 agent — sound as if they are faking their own real British accents. The rallying cry of London Has Fallen? The astonishing aptitude of the terrorists is meant to leave a fear-mongered audience pissing in its pants and hungry for blood, and certain that only America has the balls and the brains and the firepower to smash them all. Big congrats to Iranian-Swedish director Babak Najafi on his first English-language film, which enables a political and cultural environment in which Hillary Clinton, who has said, “We can nuke Iran if we want to” (only a slight paraphrase), can be considered the “reasonable” presidential candidate. “London Has Fallen” is Donald Trump in film form.
And not even in the funny, Funny-or-Die film form, which knowingly luxuriates in the ludicrousness of his bombastic persona. “London Has Fallen” is a shot of Trump’s jingoistic viciousness straight to the veins.
In this numbingly violent, over-the-top sequel to 2013’s “Olympus Has Fallen,” all Westerners are innocent targets of terrorism. All Muslims are single-minded extremists. And only one man — Gerard Butler, once again swallowing his Scottish accent to play the nation’s most indestructible Secret Service agent — can stop them.
It’s: “America, Fuck Yeah!” with zero irony.
But let’s try to set aside the fear-based philosophical and political underpinnings for a moment and just focus on “London Has Fallen” for its entertainment value as an action flick: It’s actually kind of dull in its monotony. Director Babak Najafi whips up a couple of cool sequences that stand out amid the relentless gunfire and cacophonous destruction. One takes place inside a spinning helicopter as it’s under attack; the camera spins, too, from inside the chopper and then outside as it slams into the side of a building before crashing to the ground. In the other, he creates the sensation of a lengthy, unbroken take as Butler’s outnumbered but undaunted Mike Banning tries to hold off a barrage of enemy gunfire down a long, narrow street in the black of night.
And that’ll just about do it for the complimentary portion of this review.

From there, Banning’s main assignment is to get the president out of London, but first he must stop the evildoers who’ve taken over the city, making movement and communication nearly impossible. Back home, the vice president (Freeman) and various cabinet members and security chiefs wait and worry as they watch the devastating images from London and receive threats from Barkawi, who promises he’ll kill President Asher at 8 p.m. Gunfire, gunfire and more gunfire ensue. But sometimes, Banning also gets to stab someone as he protects the president, and he literally twists the knife with glee as he does it.
Superficially, their adrenalized adventures are meant to be thrilling. But fundamental to the duo’s quest to survive is an us-vs.-them mentality that’s offensive in the overly simplistic way it panders to fears of terrorism in general and Muslims in particular. They can’t stand us and our way of life, the film seems to be saying. These villains don’t even get the benefit of characterization beyond hatred and mastery of high-tech weaponry. They will kill as many people as they must to get to the leader of the free world. And when they do get their hands on him, they will beat and torture him cruelly.
Nearly as obnoxious is the flippant way Banning and Asher share a jovial quip each time they get out of a jam. At one point, Banning makes a joke about Asher coming out of the closet after Asher literally has stepped out of a closet. This is the level of repartee you can expect from “London Has Fallen.” Ostensibly, this brand of humor is meant to provide comic relief; instead, it’s cringe-inducing.
I hated “London Has Fallen” so much that as soon as I got out of the screening, I changed the Waze voice on my phone from the smooth, comforting tones of Freeman back to Thomas, the British guy who mispronounces major Los Angeles streets like La Cienega and Sepulveda. Hopefully, no more cities have to fall.

First of all, Gerard Butler’s Mike Banning is a terrible Secret Service agent. Could you imagine a world in which the First Lady is killed and the President of the United States had been captured… twice? Okay, technically Banning was working for the Treasury Department when the events of the 2013 film Olympus Has Fallen took place, but whatever – the fictional American people of this series deserve a better fictional Secret Service. I hope whomever runs to succeed President Asher (Aaron Eckhart) realizes that he or she will probably be taken hostage at some point.
Moving on…Gerard Butler returns as a one-man killing machine in London Has Fallen, which plays like a video game of deplorable politics. Directed by Iranian-born, Swedish filmmaker Babak Najafi, who apparently hasn’t mellowed from his adolescent past as an Iran-Iraq war refugee, this casually xenophobic action thriller would require fantastical conviction in American supremacy, if not a perverted desire for excessive, racist brutality to be viewed as in any way enjoyable.
London Has Fallen is not a “fun” movie, even though it certainly thinks it’s fun. For the life of me, I have no idea how anyone thinks watching almost every notable landmark in London explode and watching hundreds of innocent people shot constitutes as “fun.” This is stuff that has actually happened… in London. I was in the mood for a good action movie, but instead it just all felt so unsettling.
Also unsettling: How unbelievably racist this movie is. Yes, there is radicalized religious terrorism in the world. I live in New York City. I see the defense mechanisms against such actions every day of my life. But when Mike Banning grabs a man of Middle Eastern descent by the neck and lectures him about what “you guys” get wrong about Americans, it all feels very ugly.

It also feels ugly when Banning tells a villain to go back to a country name that contains a few expletives, followed by “hstan” – oh, and while he’s doing this, he’s mercilessly stabbing the villain’s already subdued brother in the chest until he’s dead. Asher asks, “Was that necessary?” Banning replies, “No.” This would also sum up London Has Fallen in its entirety.
London Has Fallen draws a line and that line is between “us” and “them.” Add to this that the director is the Iranian-born Babak Najafi, which I point out to only muddy the waters even more about what this movie is trying to say. Maybe these are his feelings? Maybe he thought this is what Americans will like? Maybe this is a sly but poorly done condemnation of these attitudes? I don’t know. I don’t understand any of the reasoning behind this. Someone ask Donald Trump.

It was at this point that I hoped that London Has Fallen might venture into the complicated territory of the War on Terror, drone strikes and its effects on society. At least, the movie sets up this possibility. (Later, when this is explained to Banning, his basic reaction is, “I don’t care” and goes on a terrorist murder spree.)
After the death of the British Prime Minister, all the world’s Western leaders gather for a state funeral. President Asher is in London for only a few minutes before pretty much everything starts blowing up and almost every other world leader is killed. A drone killed Barkawi’s family, so to retaliate he’s going to murder every world leader. Again, the tone of these scenes is way off, because it all just seems so unnecessarily real and graphic. Banning then leads the President through the streets of London trying to keep him alive.
One of the strangest things about London Has Fallen is that while Banning and Asher are hiding from terrorists, back home a war room is assembled that includes characters played by Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Robert Forster, and Jackie Earle Haley sitting around a table with not much to do. I think Melissa Leo has just two or three lines. Let me repeat that: London Has Fallen hired four Oscar nominees and gave them all nothing to do. Great.

My press screening of London Has Fallen started right when early Super Tuesday returns started to trickle in. We live in a world where the leading candidate for the Republican nomination has talked about banning Muslims from entering the United States. This is also a candidate who made references to General Pershing shooting Muslims with bullets dipped in pigs’ blood – a story that isn’t even true – in order to win votes from people who like hearing such things. I suspect the people who like hearing stuff like this will also like London Has Fallen. This is a movie that plays in perfectly with that sensibility.
Remember when I mentioned how the story begins with a complicated story about a drone strike gone awry? (Here’s a spoiler alert if you care about these things) London Has Fallen also ends with a dramatic drone strike, one that exists to get a cheer from the audience, showing bodies flying everywhere in dramatic fashion. It’s the perfect movie for Trump’s America.
