In those threads often times I see a lot of STEM degree fields end up being Conservative/ Republican and non-stem fields (English, Compsci, Culinary, socio/psych) being more liberal.
I started this thread out o the curiousity of if blue collar fields (Plumbing, welding, HVAC) stay conservative and more outdoorsy/customer service fields stay liberal (anything in the outdoor sports industry, water testers, TEFL),
Then what about those in the middle? (Security guards, pilots, real estate.)

You're pretty close. I've moved on from the crane/mechanical shit and I'm now in our nuclear inspection department, we build/refuel reactors. A lot of the quals I have aren't even used any more but I still maintain them and have to go thru the annual recert tests and boards. Those certs are about 7 or 8 yrs worth of classes and training while on the job.

It's a safety qual you get for going to a class that trains you not to get sucked in to or fall inside shipboard ventilation systems. Seems obvious one shouldn't do that, but we had a guy drowned a couple years ago because he didn't know what he was doing and his foreman was a shithead.

You seriously have no idea how much money this guy can make. Where I work and with my own eyes, I have seen crane operators clear 90 bucks an hour while napping. Even in the summer working 7-12s (7 days a week, 12 hours a day, 44 total overtime hours), is an breeze in the comfort of your cush climate contolled cabin of your multi-million dollar beast.
Once you learn how that job is mostly a gravy train... well I bet rarely but horribly nervewracking too.
