De jure and de facto are normal words in the english dictionary. De facto means in practice, de jure means in theory, it's usually used for territorial disputes, like Ukraine owns Crimea de jure, but Russia owns it de facto.

The de facto fear in the US is that some busybody SJW will catalog your 'hate speech' and send it to your employer, who would usually fire you to avoid the reputation damage. Police don't do anything to regulate speech anywhere in the US, and the legal protections are pretty strong if they tried (i.e. the 1st amendment constitutional protections). Moreover it would be a national media shitstorm and charges would likely be dropped before someone accused of hate speech even saw the inside of a courtroom. Either being self-employed or working for an employer who doesn't give a fuck is the ideal here.
