As a background, I at my first visit to the country was in my late 20s, and I have worked in the automotive industry for most of my adult life. After a few things which happened in my life I began wanting to leave the US more and more, and had the opportunity to go on a paid trip to VN with some Viet Kieu I know at their expense, and thus began the weirdest yet most fun parts of my life so far, and which has also instilled in me some of the greatest internal conflict with this place and its people, a love/hate relationship which is in constant turmoil. Girlfriend is Chinese but her father's family grew up in Vietnam before they came here. So most of her uncles ended up going back to Vietnam to bring a wife home. They are some of the most crooked people I've ever met. Always scamming, trying to find an angle, and taking advantage of everything. They all own nail shops and I know that they underreport or don't report cash income for tax purposes. Lots of them have big houses, lexuses, etc but their kids get free lunch and welfare. In terms of being openly violent, you'd be hard pressed to see any real violence in Vietnam other than some drunken shit talking. However, Vietnamese people have a very dark, violent side which is likely pent up from the front their culture requires them to put up on a daily basis. Here's a quick bit about the Vietnamese and the nail industry.
Vietnamese learned nails from a white actress named Tippy Hedron in the 70s. This woman decided to give a small group of Vietnamese women who fled Vietnam after the war a skill, and she chose to teach them nails. This small group of women went on to teach their friends when in the US and it quickly spread until most nail shops in the US had been taken over by the Vietnamese.
Here is how nail shops work:
Many of the board exams by the State required to have a license to practice nails require the practitioner to acquire X amount of hours observing, cleaning and practicing under supervision prior to taking their State exam. Vietnamese owned schools for a fee will falsify these accumulated hours and sign off for them to take their exam for which they cram for, which is in Vietnamese. Then then go on to work making on average 800-1500 dollars weekly, tax free, while most of them are receiving subsidized healthcare, food stamps, etc.
These people then stay with their family so they don't have to spend this income on rent, etc. Many save enough while going to school, and eventually acquire businesses themselves and will achieve substantial wealth.

Not if you intend on maintaining a large extended family which tolerates each other. Vietnamese and Western culture are diametrically opposed, and raising children in such a way that they are proud of their culture and not conflicted between two is optimal for raising healthy individuals. I can't find a photo of the inside of my apartment, but pic related is outside the door of my apartment block level on a place I stay in the city in Da Nang when I want to get out of the countryside for a while. There, I pay around $60 for rent which includes hot water, wifi, electricity, and some furnishings already. No A/C, though it wasn't important to me at that time as I wouldn't be in it that much anyhow. Most Vietnamese men can live comfortably on $100 a month, I usually splurge and spend about $200 a month in the city because I go out a lot, and as little as $50 a month when I live in the countryside, though I pay nothing for rent out there.
I usually use wifi everywhere I go when it's available, which is free obviously, but I pay about 10 bucks a month for a 2g/month USB aircard, which is expensive. I stopped using that when I ditched my laptop, now I only just use data on my phone when I'm there and use my Galaxy Note for internet browsing/shitposting.

As far as the women go, to find a good one you're going to have to put in work and learn Vietnamese. From what I have learned and experienced, the ones who speak English that you'll be able to talk to aren't worth fucking with and are too Westernized. They will be high maintenance, though not nearly as bad as what you probably deal with at home in Germany. The ones who you find in the countryside who are brought up in a traditional household with good values are still to be found, but as I said you will have to stay out there, learn Vietnamese and get in good with her folks. I've devoted the last four years of my life entirely to your people, it's safe to say I can make fair judgement. As I've said in the thread, I face such polarizing conflict with the Vietnamese as they are on one hand such an amazing and impressive people who I have respect for in many ways, and then in other ways I can find them revolting and sometimes almost subhuman. Allow me to give you a small anecdotal example of what makes me see the "true" nature of Vietnamese, one of thousands of small things I see on a daily basis:
One day I was coming out of a local Supermarket in Da Nang where I was buying expensive imported booze for a friend's party. As I was coming out, I noticed a woman attempting to load heavy ass boxes onto the back of her motorcycle. I stood for a moment and watched as she was obviously struggling to grasp the box, and I watched as DOZENS of healthy and perfectly able-bodied men (and some women) pass by her like she was invisible. I quickly walked up, grabbed the box and lifted it onto the bike, and instructed her to get on while I held the bike steady. She was in shock that some guy would just randomly help her.
While the Viets are not so lacking in humanity and compassion as the Chinese, they are pretty fucking close in my experience. These are some of the things, the small ones ,which I believe are an issue with your people and should be discussed and addressed within your own society in order for you to progress as a people.

I believe a Westerner can live a comfortable WESTERN style life for around $200-300 a month for an exactly similar style of life you'd be used to back home. If you're willing to do without some things, which is easier to do in Vietnam because you're out and about more and spending less on consumer shit, you can live for as little as $100 a month. Most of my Western friends are English teachers, which is an easy job to score there and usually pays $12-16US an hour, which is huge money there. I now have a 5 year visa, but most people will only be able to get a 3 month visa which you can renew while in the country 3 times consecutively before having to exit the country and then applying again (can usually be done in a day, some people just take a few day trip to Cambodia). There is enough evidence that shows that Ho Chi Minh was always partial to communism, but I do believe that his intentions were good, and he did want Vietnam free from foreign rule. He was extremely intelligent and I'm sure that he had to know the mindset of his people, and what type of governing body would take to rule them properly. Maybe that is why he actually asked the US for help first before they promptly told him to fuck off and then funded France to continue to fight him off.
As much as I hate to say this as I do love Vietnamese people for all of their strengths and weaknesses, I can't imagine what it must have been like before French rule. My first visit I was more than surprised to find that not only do the Viets not hold animosity towards us Americans for the war of which they still feel real effects from till this day, but that they actually love Americans.
