I don't mind open carry- especially when done like the gentleman in OP's pic.

However, carrying the rifle in your arms, or in front of you with a magazine inserted is, as far as I'm concerned, an invitation for the police of other armed citizens to question you or even take you down. You are a second or two at the most away from wielding that weapon in a hostile way, and most people who go into public wielding long guns are just looking for a fight in one way or another.
>>
>>74217415
Because you can't conceal carry a rifle you fucking idiot.

Literally the only reason people do it is to rustle leftist jimmies. If you stopped freaking out about it it would disappear.

Concealed carry requires a permit in some states so is legally less protected if you should be caught without the permit where one is required

I support the right to open carry whatever you want, but I do think it is silly to open carry a rifle in public. That's why handguns exist, less obnoxious and waaay more convenient.

It makes more sense to carry your rifle if you're going out in the wild or to a known potentially dangerous area where you'll need the firepower.

Theoretically. "Arms" in second amendment context means nothing anymore. That meaning meant muskets and stuff, but now it could mean anything. Missiles? Tanks? Still technically "arms". Plus, what about the well regulated militia part? When I think that, I think of police. Honestly 2nd amendment needs a 21st century update

>but I do think it is silly to open carry a rifle in public
But the only reason people think it is silly is because it's not 'normal'. In reality the only practical difference between a slung rifle and a concealed handgun is the increased weight of the rifle.

You could begin shooting people randomly in effectively the same amount of time with both, so there is really no increased danger aside from the higher terminal effectiveness of rifle rounds.

There is no ambiguity in the 2nd amendment whatsoever. It explicitly says that because a functional militia is necessary for the country to survive, the right of the people to own and carry weapons is sacrosanct.

>>74219589
>>74219654
The militia is legally defined as all able bodied males. Furthermore it doesn't say that the militia is entitled to guns, it says that because we need a militia, the people are entitled to guns.

Carrying an unloaded gun is nothing more than dick wagging. I cc a loaded SA/DA on the half cock, and if I ever take a rifle into bad lands with the intention to use it, it is in front of me, loaded and chambered, with the safety on.

If you can't handle a loaded gun without pointing it at people, you shouldn't have a gun at all. This "accidents happen" meme is bullshit.

Keep loaded guns holstered and loaded rifles with the safety on. The average liberal doesn't even know the difference, so carrying unloaded is redundant and only serves to make you feel better for comprising.

Don't compromise, train and know how to use your gun. If you think carrying it unloaded on your back makes you anything more than the first target, you're a moron.

>"bears", "arms" and "militia" better.
Gee I don't know maybe we have dictionaries for that

bear1
ber/
verb
1.
(of a person) carry.
"he was bearing a tray of brimming glasses"
synonyms: carry, bring, transport, move, convey, take, fetch, deliver, tote, lug
"I come bearing gifts"

arms
ärmz/Submit
noun
1.
weapons and ammunition; armaments.
"they were subjugated by force of arms"
synonyms: weapons, weaponry, firearms, guns, ordnance, artillery, armaments, munitions, matériel
"the illegal export of arms"

And the militia is defined in US code as "males aged 16-45" not that the 2nd amendment affirms the militias right to keep and bear arms which shall not be infringed it affirms the People's right.

And again watch the link I posted and explain what is "misunderstood" about the second amendments definition save for faggots like yourself.

Same thing with people using a cut in your fence as a pathway. If you do not close that off at least 1 day a year that path then becomes a de facto walkway and you lose any right to close off that land.

You mean exercising their rights and reminding police of how they are expected to behave? There are plenty of cops who do it right by talking to them without detaining them, and bidding them a good day when they see there are no crimes in progress. And yet the majority decide they can arbitrarily and illegally detain citizens based on a soccer mom's testimony. But god forbid someone try to set those cops straight about what is legal and what isn't, what's important is that people stop attention whoring because you were annoyed by some YouTube videos you chose to watch.

Literally anything up until 1934 retard.

There are letters going back and forth from the founding of this nation of citizens asking if owning fully armed warships was legal and the founders responding with essentially "fuck yes".

Currently tanks rocket launchers mortars and artillery are all still legal but with unconstitutional restrictions placed on them.

>Hemenway finds more reliable an annual federal government research project, called the National Crime Victimization Survey, which yields estimates in the neighborhood of 100,000 defensive gun uses per year. Making various reasonable-sounding adjustments, other social scientists have suggested that perhaps a figure somewhere between 250,000 and 370,000 might be more accurate.

>>
>>74221585
I get open carry, but why do you have to open carry with your finger millimeters away from the trigger?

As far as I'm concerned, that person is holding their weapon in a hostile and threatening manner. You don't hold a weapon like that unless you're expecting to fire it at a moment's notice. If you're hunting, at war, or in a self-defense situation you can hold your weapon like that.

If you're holding a weapon like that on a crowded city street, and a cop shoots you, you have absolutely no right to complain. It's your own fault at that point.

My main disagreement with Open Carry advocates is they put the magazine in the rifle and often don't open carry but hold the rifle "at ready". Not a good idea either way.

Even the IDF soldiers keep the magazine out of the weapon when open carrying while off duty. This is for safety as well as common sense.

Because IDF soldiers aren't gun fighters, they're weak and soft. If you carry a gun, it is because you intend to use it should the need arise.

An unloaded gun, in a gun fight, is a liability making you nothing more than a target.

Real American's aren't scared of a loaded gun, because they know it can't fire unless the operator pulls the damn trigger. And when Americans pull that trigger, it is to protect their own liberty.

No. You can only be detained on suspicion of having committed, committing, or about to commit a crime. "Man carrying a gun" is not a criminal offense, and therefore no detention on those grounds is legal. How do you not know your own laws?
>>
javascript:quote('>>74231320');

Depending on state laws that would be true. Nevertheless, Police can/will still be called and have to investigate.
>>
>>74231679
>can/will still be called and have to investigate
Absolutely. But the people who open carry specifically to bait police into interacting with them do so when they are legally in the clear. I take issue with gun owners who say "I support the right to bear arms but OC attention whores should just show their IDs to the cops when asked, or better yet not OC at all".

Rights that are not exercised become privileges. When dealing with the state, you don't give a fucking inch or they will inevitably take a mile. That means ensuring the enforcement branch of the legal system is kept in line, to the exact letter of the law. Police are not your friends, and the overwhelming majority will go along with whatever rights-eroding laws get passed. Take it from a fucking leaf. Australians and bongs will tell you the same thing.

arms refers to same thing as a coat of arms, because in the middle ages only the nobles with a proper coat of arms were allowed to keep, and bear arms.
All free men can keep and bear arms, if you can't, you aren't a free man. Deal with it.
Keep and bear arms is there for a reason.

We have concealed carry here but I have met less than ten people who have admitted to having it. I suspect around another 12 or so of having a legal concealed carry.

Open carrying of long weapons is fine but generally unworkable in public places.

It's a psychological experiment. People usually associate guns in the open with authority/cops. Seeing an average person carrying a gun reminds you that you have the same 'power' as a cop does.
