Preparing is a waste of time since you have an infinite number of scenarios you need to be ready for. What you really need is adaptability skills. Though it doesn't hurt to have a little survival equipment around.

Mine is built off of stuff that I own and can easily access, I know the terrain and I have extensive training in melee combat and stealth/infiltration. My primary weapon would be my dual axes but I'm not afraid to unload with my BIG gun.
