Anon, this is a mental illness. Just like when a person hears voices that aren't really there. Or views themselves as always fat regardless of how much they don't eat and how much they excercise.
This person was born a man, but was never comfortable in their body due to a neurological defect. Maybe this occurred during fetal development, or maybe later through hormone imbalances, but there is an underlying neurological defect in their brain that is causing this in them.
The reason it is a defect and not just an abnormality is because to "treat it" requires they undergo drastic cosmetic surgery, and hormone treatments to completely alter their body's appearance.
But even after Mr. Hernandez transitioned to a "woman" it still wasn't enough for him. So he had to alter his body even more and become a "dragon" because when he looked in the mirror even after his surgery and hormone treatments he still saw a man. And he couldn't deal with that. So he tried to cover it up even more by pretending he was now a "woman dragon" which would of course have more "dragonlike features" (read masculine).
Instead of helping this person deal with their underlying neurological defect and finding some way for them to accept their body as is without wanting to kill themselves. We are now just leading deluded people even further into their delusion. All the while pretending that we as a society are somehow enlightened or progressive.

There is no light at the end of the tunnel for any transgender person, no matter how long of hormone treatments they go through. or whatever surgeries they undergo. They may be able to deal with the feelings of pain and wrongness of their body for some time. And initially some of these "treatments" might help. But eventually whether it is from a sidelong glance they get of their reflection that looks off, or a memory from their pre-transition childhood they remember that they really aren't a woman, and they never will be.
If you don't believe me spend some time on a forum for transgender people. Look at them constantly hoping for better surgery options, normal practices of suppressing all children's hormones through puberty until they are an adult, or dreaming of a future with womb transplants so that then they will finally be a "woman".
There is no light at the end of this tunnel.
We need to find a better way to handle this issue. We need more research into the underlying neurological defect so that we can give people an actual option of dealing with their condition rather than surgery after surgery to cover up their constantly reappearing dysphoria.
This will never occur so long as LGBT groups and the lefty part of society as a whole keeps trying to push the fiction that transgender people really are a 'woman'.
