This is bullshit. It was quite a common past time for surgical enthusiasts in Rome's heyday to examine both living and dead bodies. The mapping of the cardiovascular system and initial nervous system research was done by bored patricians who may or may not have been sadists.

Not to mention Romans/Greeks identifying germs and the spread of disease through lack of cleanliness. They might not have been able to see bacteria under a microscope but knew of the perils of not washing ones hands and keeping wounds clean and covered to stop infection.

Roman medicine in Marcus Aurelius's day was more advanced than the medicine practised by "doctors" anywhere else in the world up until the 19th century simply because they understood and took the effort to combat infection and the spread of disease with sanitation.

Something as simple as washing your hands before tending a wound so the patient didn't die of septicaemia and other complications days later is why you were better off dying the in the field than being treated by doctors in the US civil war only 150 years ago.

It's a legitimate point. The primary talent that all of the authors of the Islamic Golden Age had in common was the ability to translate into Arabic, whether they were translating languages from Europe or India. There was very little original content in any of the works from that time period.

Umayyads

The main period of translation was during Abbasid rule. The 2nd Abassid Caliph Al-Mansur moved the capital from Damascus to Baghdad. Here he founded the great library with texts containing Greek Classical texts. Al-Mansur ordered this rich fund of world literature translated into Arabic.
Syriac translations played a major role for the later reception into Arabic. These translators from Syriac were mostly Nestorian and Jacobite Christians, working in the years following the Abbasid period. The most important translator of this group was the Syriac-speaking Christian Hunayn Ibn Ishaq (809-873), known to the Latins as Joannitius
Muslim apologists often argue that this interest in knowledge was driven from teachings in the Koran however it should be noted the Umayyads where Muslim and no great interest in Greek ideas.
