Not at first. It's something you have to force yourself to do at first and OP asks why is that. Since you're dishonest I'll tell him.
Two reasons mostly: kids playing grown up, kids trying to fit in with kids playing grown up. Before they know it they're addicted to it and spend the next 20 years smoking and occasionally try to stop.
>>
>>74055556

>Great logic isn't it?

And it was awesome.

Now I mainly just smoke pipe tobacco and cigars because its the best way to do it.

After that I got a sweet nicotine rush which was a sweet payoff for that horrible few second of coughing.

I don't even smoke, never started smoking because I was aware of the negative health effects of inhaling toxic burning products in your lungs. Just wanted to see how it felt so I can judge it myself instead of parroting some anti-smoking propaganda.

Smoking is Good for You!
AKA, Smokers' Paradoxes

Note that the studies referenced are what is known as "hard science" as opposed to the "soft science" of epidemiological studies. Also, notice that the research here is not in tobacco literature or tobacco-funded literature; in fact, many of the studies cited are actually from antismoking literature funded by Big Tobacco Control and/or Big Pharma.

Neurology. 1999 Sep 22;53(5):1158. Smoking and Parkinson's disease: a dose-response relationship Gorell JM, Rybicki BA, Johnson CC, Peterson EL | Department of Neurology, Henry Ford Health System, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Center in Molecular and Cellular Toxicology with Human Applications, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA.

The lower risk of Parkinson disease among current and former smokers varied with smoking duration, intensity, and recentness. The dependence of this association on the timing of smoking during life is consistent with a biologic effect.

>Reduced MAO B enzyme
(smokers in their 60s have MAO B of nonsmokers in their 20s; also here). Lowering of MAO B is the Holy Grail (deprenyl does it but not as well as tobacco) of life-extension and smart drug circles.
The real eye-opener comes from theNational Institute on Drug Abuse! That's about as far as you can get from being a shill for Big Tobacco! Yet, this antismoking group's very own study, "Tobacco Smoke May Contain a Psychoactive Ingredient Other Than Nicotine" (NIDA News, Volume 13, Number 3, July, 1998), states plainly:
>The amount of the enzyme, called monoamine oxidase (MAO), is reduced by 30 to 40 percent in the brains of smokers, compared to nonsmokers or former smokers, the brain scans show. The reduction in brain MAO levels may result in an increase in levels of dopamine, which scientists associate with the reinforcing effects of drugs of abuse.
>>
You new zeleanders sure know how to shitpost. Smoking is only bad for you because health organizations say it is. Outside of the west, smoking is harmless because it was never smoking that hurt people, it was always diet that hurt people. In the west diets are garbage.

Every study that said smoking was bad for you had no way of controlling for other factors and is just correlation bullshit, not definitive causation. All health groups that have tried to deem smoking as bad are just faking in order to push most of the world's health problems onto smoking. They've sadly succeeded at doing that.

Telomerase ("fountain of youth") much more active in smokers.

Smoking is associated with increased telomerase activity in short-term cultures of human bronchial epithelial cells, Cancer Letters 2007 Feb 8;246(1-2):24-33. Epub 2006 Mar 6--from the Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709, USA.

>Glutathione (chief antioxidant in human body) and catalase (another key antioxidant which neutralizes alcohol damage, cyanide,...) doubled in smokers.

Also explained by NightLight.
From The Abstract of Normal alveolar epithelial lining fluid contains high levels of glutathione in the Journal of Applied Physiology (Vol. 63, Issue 1, p. 152-157):

The epithelial cells on the alveolar surface of the human lower respiratory tract are vulnerable to toxic oxidants derived from inhaled pollutants or inflammatory cells. ... This study demonstrates that the epithelial lining fluid (ELF) of the lower respiratory tract contains large amounts of the sulfhydryl-containing antioxidant glutathione (GSH). The total glutathione (the reduced form GSH and the disulfide GSSG) concentration of normal ELF was 140-fold higher than that in plasma of the same individuals, and 96% of the glutathione in ELF was in the reduced form. Compared with nonsmokers, cigarette smokers had 80% higher levels of ELF total glutathione, 98% of which was in the reduced form.

More studies on antioxidants in people who smoke can be found in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
Selective increase of antioxidant enzyme activity in the alveolar macrophages from cigarette smokers and smoke-exposed hamsters. for American Review of Respiratory Disease, (1990 Mar, vol. 141, no 3, p. 678-82).

It's a psychological thing.

Some people need a mental bridge of sorts to transition from child to adulthood. And cigarettes act as this bridge. They get your mind to a place where you attach your transition to a bad habit because you saw adults do it, for some people it's alcohol, some cigarettes. You whittle your childhood away with a drag of a cigarette. And then you go and bang chicks.

Have you noticed that people who have never either smoked or drank in their entire lives, are pussyfied little mouses that cover when you use a strong tone.

Yeah, it's a cancerous faggotry that most people get addicted, even though it would have the same effect if used moderately during transition to adulthood and then dropped. But cigarettes are very addictive. And some people attach their adulthood to them, which is an unhealthy psychological crutch, telling of insecurity, usually manifested in children of single mothers.

>>74058960
You have to take two completely identical groups and THEN test them you ignoramus. The studies don't do that. That's the problem.

Scientifically illiterate person from the isle of man unironically shitposting. You can disregard scientific posts if they contain phrases like "the elixir of life" or "the fountain of youth".

Anyway:
Smoking produces a shitload of oxidants and another shitload of DNA damage. It is a stress factor and the changes you see are adaptions to that stressor. Of fucking course your body has to ramp up the production of glutathion and upregulate it's DNA repair mechanisms to deal with the damage. So while these adaptions would be benefitial in an unstressed individual they don't do much when you actively try your best to screw over your DNA repair. It's like visiting the inner chambers of Chernobyl and then boasting "Ha see guys my nucleotide excission repair and my double-strand-break repair systems are much more active than yours. Wow the expression levels of Rad, Brca and Mut are of the charts. I must be a superhuman"

But let based David Godsell explain to you what is one of the shitty things that happens when you smoke theoncologist.alphamedpress.org/cgi/content/full/9/4/469

See how you are throwing your poor DNA polymerase under the bus? See?

So while there are more disadvantages to smoking (i.e. reduced lung capacity, high blood pressure, various types of cancer), at the end of the day two things are true:

1. The vast majority (>90%) of people who get lung cancer are smokers and 20% of all smokers die from lung cancers.

2. You are a scientifically iliterate CUNT that is too afraid to deal with the facts.

As we say here: "everyone wants to be Helmut Schmidt (ex-chancellor, >90 year old smoker) but noone wants to be the 38 year old nameless guy who gets both his feet amputated".

You're violently delusional. Native Americans smoked tobacco for generations and could live to lifespans comparable to modern Americans. Although that's not saying much.

>Lung cancer

Please compare and contrast the average statistical consumption of HFCS soda with how much that level of intake increases likelihood of diabetes or heart disease.

Everybody dies of something. Dying of "old age" is a meme. On the other hand, many smokers live to a ripe old age.

Ok. So you really don't want to face the facts.

So how do you explain the corelation between smoking and dying from lung cancer?
Why do 20% of all smokers die from lung cancer?
Why are over 90% of all lung cancer patients smokers?

Are you saying these facts are wrong? Is a pro-smoking blog really more trustworthy than the fucking WHO?

Easy, that 20% is also exposed to asbestos, air pollution, processed carbs (which in a recent news segment was revealed to increase lung cancer by 50%), don't scapegoat smoking just because it smells, buddy.

>Why are over 90% of all lung cancer patients smokers?

Because they were also exposed to what also contributed heavily to their cancer. Also, the 90% tatiatic is outdated and wrong.

>Are you saying these facts are wrong? Is a pro-smoking blog really more trustworthy than the fucking WHO?

Yes because unlike the WHO, the pro smoking blog looks at the studies and results rationally and comes to the proper conclusion that the WHO is cherry picking data.
