You know how when you go to a grocery store, they often ask you to donate money for a cause they're supporting? I heard that some/most of it goes to the business itself. Is there any truth to this, and is this a good analogy for socialism in general?

Yes, you're correct. Most of the money goes to the business, but I wouldn't compare it to Socialism just yet. If anything, it's capitalism taking is course.
I've had a lot of time behind the counter at stores that have this, spending my last ten years at Walgreens as a Shift Lead, I can tell you this Red Nose Day is the most legit charity I've seen.

You are correct, most charities take a significant portion of money collected for their own administrative costs...
The money you give is donated on behalf of the store, not you.
This in turn grants the store a tax write off based upon how much money was donated.
It is a tax scheme, do not fall for it. donate directly.

clever girl...
Its all true they are trying to scam you out of your money.
i stop going to any store that does this. I want to buy my groceries I don't want to be guilted into paying some charity where 97% of the money goes to administrative costs.
i don't even like most charities. donating to nigger countries doesn't help them. they lack the intellectual capacity to help themselves, hence the reason they're poor in the first place.

What the fuck man, go to hell I got places to be.
