Thats why there is a lot of support for UKIP. Probably true, but there are clear reasons for that. To be honest, having a nationalized media and banks is absolutely vital to retaining sovereign agency as a state. If you don't have those, other people or even foreign states are telling the population what to do and think. Personally I lean towards the 18th century (and before) European monarchy-style system. The problem there is of course that it's a hereditary position instead of one chosen by the people directly, but that could easily be remedied without upsetting the governing structure.
