Absolutely. The US just has to actually listen to what Russia and Putin say. For instance, Russia, like any country, wants to protect their interests. Syria is an ally of Russia, and fights terrorism.
The US had two choices, one, help Assad bring stability to his country, aiding a Russian ally, and then focusing on ISIS, the real threat for the US in that region.
Instead, Obama played superman, arming 'rebels' that opposed a secular and otherwise orderly government. Instead of de escalating things in Syria, the country is now literrally in ruins and a warzone. Not only did this action deteriorate the US relations with Russia, it also opened the way for ISIS to expand and get stronger.
All in all, a total and miserable failure.
Trump wants to get good relations with Russia again, and deal with ISIS.
People like to criticize Trump's foreign policy, but you simply can not get worse than Obama/Clinton, so any change is already an improvement.
