Or at the very least, if there is one, he is hands-of when it comes to us.

http://abc7chicago.com/news/boy-who-grew-hair-out-for-cancer-patients-now-has-cancer/1331530/

"A young California boy who grew his hair out for children with cancer has now been diagnosed with cancer himself.

Vinny Desautels, 7, grew his hair out for two years to donate it to children fighting cancer.

"I want to help people so they don't have to go to the doctor to fight cancer," Vinny said.

But now Vinny, who lives outside of Sacramento, has been diagnosed with cancer, KTXL reports.

"It is Stage 4 aggressive cancer," Jason Desautels, Vinny's father said. "What they found is that he has a significant growth on his hip and in the bone around the eye and behind the nose and on the cheek on the right side."

Vinny's father said his doctors were still trying to determine the exact type of cancer he has."

There are three scenarios:

1.) God doesn't exist.
2.) God does exist but does not influence events, and therefore praying is pointless.
3.) God does exist and does influence events, but lets bad shit happen all the time, and is thus an asshole.

Pick.

For true good to exist, there must also be evil and suffering. God isn't good or bad, it just is.

4. God exists and as per his agreement with man, gives men the freedom to choose. If someone chooses a path against what his plan for them is, they will suffer. There are a myriad of paths within Gods plan for someone, there's the freedom of choice. God never promised us liberty, only the freedom to choose Him or the Devil.

Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Universe which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. God has not been proven not to exist, therefore he must exist.

You are put on earth to have a human experience.
We never really die and its not really real. God doesn't interfere with our daily lives because it would ruin the experience. Think about it as being 5 and learning how to ride a bike and then having your parents hold you all the time so you never fall.

In this case the kid might have chosen before he was born to have an experience as a kid with cancer. Why would god micromanage his life? That would ruin the experience and in the end it would be pointless anyway because you never really die.

You people are fucking dense. You're trying to apply human labels and conditions to an extra-dimensional being.

But fuck it, let's go with that.

Assume you're born to wealthy, moral, upstanding parents. You want for nothing and your parents raise you to be a well mannered, respectful, decent contributing member of society.

Yet in adulthood you misstep. You commit a crime. You kill someone. Despite being handed everything on a silver platter you FUCK IT ALL UP.

Do you blame the parents? Or do you blame the individual?

God gave us everything on a silver platter. Everything we want or need is right here on this planet - yet WE choose to rape, pillage, and plunder this planet and eachother...

...and that's God's fault?

Dance club... You really think that God agrees that you should deprave yourself in these places that often ends up in disordered sex (non marital sex = adultery = not God's will).
Communism = atheism.

You didn't choose the right example.
As for the kid, he will probably suffer, but that doesn't mean God doesn't exist. God never said that that he will relieve us from pain and suffering, even if we follow his path. Jesus said that he will give us eternal life if we act according to his will, that is a set of rule and no excesses.

Jesus suffered on the cross for many hours. You really think this world will be painless and sweet all along because Jesus?

can't i be an agnostic athiest?
>>
It is pointless to argue on this matter.

We can't just logically that God exists or it's conception to people that constantly apply human standards to God.
>he is an asshole
He is not human and you can't understand him. If you don't want to return his love, you are free. As much as you are free not to return your parent's love, not return your friends their calls...

In French we say: there is nobody blinder than the one who doesn't want to see.

You can deny your parents love you and find reasons for it. The fact that they love you is simply irrational, since you've been causing them trouble from the very beginning, yet they never stopped to love you.
That's the same for God on another scale.

Assume you and your companion were the only sentient creatures of your kind in existence, having no parents, and no self-consciousness, and the magician who cast the spell that put you there pretended not to notice that there was a creature roaming around convincing your companion to eat the most beautiful fruit in your front yard, so the magician curses you and your offspring for eternity.

I mean, you're really just arguing semantically. That's like saying if you get hit by a car, its your fault because you chose to leave your house that morning.

Even living by absolute virtue, or absolute safety you're still susceptible to random, uncontrollable events that can kill or maim you.

If you're going to make that argument, then free will doesn't matter since you can't see beyond the horizon of the impact it'll have on yourself or others. At that point it just comes back to a flaw with intelligent design. If someone builds a car that breaks down after 1000 miles, you don't blame the car, you blame the builder.

What about the car driver? Or the man who built the roads? How exactly do "you" have freewill and maintain absolute virtue, so no mistakes happen, but all those around you don't? It's fellow man who built the car, and has been driving long enough for no road to be safe.

But your right, this entire debate is semantic, since what a humans version of pain, if taken into context, would be that of a baby crying over spilled milk when compared to the machinations of the universe and divine.

God did all that whacked up shit in the old testament because he didn't understand how humans worked. He was like "Well life is the most sacred thing, so sacrifice a bunch of shit to me to show your love to me"

Then he came down to Earth and was like "Aw shit that was a horrible idea I'm so sorry you people hate me" and decided it was best if he was quiet and worked behind the scenes for a bit.

His ego probably got smashed when they crucified him, it hurt more inside than it did outside.

Open question to any theist in here: Do you have, or have you had, any pets that became "part of the family"? Pets that bonded with you, displayed emotion, picked up on your emotion, exhibited intelligence, etc. If so, do you believe they have souls and will go to heaven?

It's a given that no one can prove the existence of god. Not many religious people even bother trying.

What most religious people want to do is reaffirm their own belief and convert others. Millions of christians, muslims, and others go out each day and "preach the word". One of their biggest priorities is adding to their numbers.

So, while they may not particularly care about proving the existence of god, they should care about proving that their belief system is the correct one. What's the point of joining a religion if it's the wrong one?

The assumption wasn't made without proof, the bible was used as proof of the Christian belief until the Atheists got upset and decided they wouldn't acknowledge Christianity until it found an alternative source of evidence contrary to the book that predicted the reformation of Israel after "a great destruction." Written thousands of years ago. Old Test.

“‘When the end comes near for those kingdoms, a bold and cruel king who tells lies will come. This will happen when many people have turned against God. This king will be very powerful, but his power will not come from himself. He will cause terrible destruction and will be successful in everything he does. He will destroy powerful people and even God’s holy people. This king will succeed by using lies and force. He will think that he is very important. He will destroy many people without warning . . .’”
—Daniel 8:23-26 NCV

Yet no the book that predicted Adolph Hitler and what followed.

Ezekiel 37:21-22: “And say unto them, ‘Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.'”

The modern nation of Israel is the first time the nation has existed under one ruler.

During the enlightenment scientists, even the ones who saw the RCC as (rightfully I might add) a slaver over the minds of the people, commemorated a form of Deism around the faith as they made their discoveries. Many (see: Isaac Newton) were rather devout in their faith.

Although Catholicism had abused and overplayed their hand their failures =/= to the Christian church's beliefs.

The thing is that there is many holes in scientific "atheistic" theories, either by ignorance, or because they are badly formed, but to scrap them out and replace them by desert fables that happened 2000 years ago, passed by oral tradition for centuries, compiled by a group of people, subject by many translations, many of those wrong, is somewhat intelectual dishonest, to say the least

Somewhat truth. I view the Christianity as the best of worst.

Don't misunderstand me. I have respect for christianity, and i consider myself a cultural christianity (fedore meme). But you shouldn't confuse religion with science. 2 different things. Pop scientists willl say that one does not invalidate the others, but it's bullshit.

>The Catholic Church was by far the biggest patron of arts for centuries

This is more truthfull. There were universities in middle ages bro

poor kid, it's a shame bad things happen to good people

But it wasn't passed by oral tradition, it was passed by written documents that were brought together fully around AD 75, a nearly impossible feat considering the books were written during a stretch of a couple thousand years and somehow made their way together.

These written documents were untouched for a long time and the Catholic church used it as a means to control the people they preached to. Only during King James's rule did the bible get modernized for the common person. The best writers and language professors were brought together to translate it properly, some believe Shakespeare was involved indirectly due to his ability to write intricate and dramatic plays with extremely deep plots for retarded sheep fucking city people.

You know the oldest bible we have was written in 4th century right? all before is some fragments. Even if we took the 75 date, it's still almost 2 generations apart.

>These written documents were untouched for a long time

Not exactly. The translations from greek originals to latin are considered to be very bad.

>Only during King James's rule did the bible get modernized for the common person.
wat? So God's word need to be modernized? Is it not perfect?

From someone who had agnostic parents and was never mindcucked by religion, I can't wrap my mind around people actually believing in religion. I try to think "well maybe they just respect the stories, which give insight into the human condition, like any good work of fiction" or a sort of hopeful agnosticism, like wouldn't it be cool if there were a God. But no, such minimally religious people are an extreme minority, the vast majority of religious believers maintain the truth of their fairy tales.

I mean, fucking come on. It's like thinking the X-Men are real, or Superman, or that Lord of the Rings actually happened. Religious narratives and beliefs are every bit as outlandish as any other fantastic fiction. I mean, don't you ever look at yourself and think, "My God, I actually believe in this corny superhero bullshit." It's completely loony, but in many parts of the world including America somehow you're the nutter for stating the blatant, common-sense observation that religious truth claims are ridiculous.

And people base their whole lives on such nonsense, it is from where they draw all ultimate meaning and purpose. You have to be mindcucked to the core to be truly religious.

Screw the argument from evil and all the idiotic theodicies. The argument from "what the fuck are you smoking?" can't be answered. After thousands of years, there is zero evidence of any sort that God or anything supernatural exists, instead there's the reassurances of professional witchdoctors and the blind belief of their cucked followers.

>he thinks god is good.
topkek, lets follow the abrahamic god, also known as the major god for 3 different major religions in the world.
if god made man in the likeness of himself that means hes egotistical by making all things under him look like mini versions of himself as walking effagies to his mightiness. even discounting this fact an is not inherently good, they simply arn't genetically this is wrong, biologically this is wrong and psychologically this is wrong as well.also if you consider the fact the old testament just through the clusterfuck of moses's saga is canon through every single religion, god is a fucking cunt who only wants to kill the everliving shit out of people who he doesn't like to his exact specifications and each different religion under said abrahamic god even basically admits to this, between mohammed being justified to being an asshole warlord, or david/moses being an asshole warlord. hell even jesus was a god damn dick with exploding peoples trees in rage and the fact he had his followers carry swords around clearly trained to fuck up anybody who annoys him as evidenced when they arrested his ass and the first thing his minions did when seeing them is cut off one of their ears with a god damn sword.
mind you the abrahamic god is the most "altruistic" of the different gods in different religions.
TL;DR: Gods a dick and he actively wants you to die.

A single anecdote that is in opposition to a universal statement debunks it
