Being a part of the EU is costing Britain more than the supposed benefits of being a member are yielding.
The European Parliament has no right of amendment, nor does it have right of initiative. They get to talk about the Commission's latest schemes and advise them on what to change, but can't force the issue.
The Commission holds all the power. This division of rule doesn't line up with the Trias Politica, where each power is kept in check by another.
It doesn't help that the commission isn't elected by the public.
Whenever the nations were given a referendum, the results were ignored. About 10 years ago there was a referendum on the European Constitution, both Ireland and the Netherlands had the majority vote against it, fearing the overruling of our sovereignty. The rest was the Treaty of Lissabon, which gave us the European Constitution anyway.
To summarise, the EU has shown little respect for our national sovereignty and appears unwilling to change that totalitarian demeanour. It is best for all member states of the EU that they get a vote to leave and I hope sincerely that they will make the right decision, which in my view is to abandon this latest attempt at a unified Europe, which politically is starting to look more and more communist than anything else.

I've seen a lot of good arguments for leaving over the last few weeks, but decided I needed to hear the counter-arguments too. So I watched that 1h40min debate (spectator), and now I have absolutely no doubt that leaving is the right choice.
Leave side: Factual arguments, backed up with data, had good answers to all points brought up.
Stay side: Many vague statements, lots of exaggerations and false dilemmas such as "britain is so small and helpless on its own", and "once we close the borders THATS IT! We cannot do trade with these countries anymore!"
The stay side was simply slaughtered, they were laughed at on many occasions because they didn't have any adequate answers or explanations for many of the points brought up.

On the one hand, a vote to leave is clearly a vote in favor of self-determination and democracy.
On the other, the fact that citizens can work and study freely within any of the EU member nations is very very appealing. I would love to have that personal freedom. I would probably move to a new country every year, just for the experience. So that will be taken away, which might suck. It's a stupid example. Scaremongering is ridiculous. We're the 5th biggest economy in the world and of those top 5 only 2 including us are in the EU. We have the second largest population in Western Europe we have the financial centre of the planet as our capitol, we';re nuclear armed and we have probably the most wide ranging connections and influence on the world stage of any other country due to historical relations. The best economies by GDP/capita in Europe are not in the EU. What that tells me is very simple. Leave, make deals, make trade pacts and alliances as one nation, controlling our own interests, and our country though maybe unstable at the start will grow to the same level of independence and economic health as Iceland, Switzerland and Norway to name a few.
By nominal GDP we're fucking huge and this is important, much more than per capita I think, because everyone, even our own people, think we're this tiny little island nation that can't handle itself with out Daddy Europe and Mommy Merkel to push our pram around. Nonsense. We can survive alone EASILY. Plenty of tiny nations also survive alone, plenty of big nations survive alone.
