I'm interested in reading the book but it seems like there's a lot of differing opinions of which translation is best, does anyone have recommendations?
I recommend the audiobook on audible. Its got some annoying 'hitler was wrong and evil' commentary interspersed throughout but the book is meant to be heard not read according to Hitler.

Volume 1 was amazing, with that one exception. It made me feel genuine anger and grief about the treatment of the German peoples, not even white. Volume 2 I never finished. By that stage Hitler has enough street cred that he can put forward his own radical ideas that have since been disproved. That's Hitler's fault though, not Fords. The Ford Translation Audiobook is very good. The annotations are objective and helpful.

It was something about animal behaviour or reproduction, he was applying it to people. I don't remember specifically the example because it was 2014 when I listened to the audio book.

Ah, ok. There was someone around here, another Aussie with a background in biology, who had some strange notions about the national socialist's racial theories. In 1924, I don't expect a War veteran with a background in Art and public speaking to say anything very interesting about animal biology. I mean, what kind of sophisticated views was he likely to have, as far as we're concerned today?
The other anon I mentioned was saying something about the Natsoc racial theories being insane, but he didn't seem to know more about them than the level of allied propaganda, pop-culture level memes. I remember being surprised by how many concepts, insights, and terms were the same then, in use by natsoc social theorists, as still exist today. The most fringe kind of esoteric-archeology that they did is held up as representative of their views, when in fact, they had mostly mainstream scientific views for the time.
For example, you'll notice the same racial distinctions as the natsocs used:

That's why Volume 1 is so much better. When I started Volume 2 it was because I wanted more Volume 1, so I suppose I was disappointed and lost interest.
I have a BA in Biology and haven't seen any evidence against the old theories. THey were simply abandoned as anyone who held those beliefs for cared was shot fighting or after the war.

Vol 1. is pretty amazing.
Vol 2 is a mix of polemics against party rivals and some interesting stuff about policy.
I thought it was interesting and 10/10 enjoyed reading it. But than again I don't have a short attention span and am interested in the period.
