I know you like to generalize but I think the current WPATH standards are pretty accurate:
Gender dysphoria is the mental illness that often presents with transgender physiology. When a patient transitions, the vast majority of the time, dysphoria completely subsides and they are no longer impaired to function (if they were to begin with).
My girlfriend is a tranny I would consider to not have impaired function pre-transition. She succeeded very hard in school and built her own business while transitioning. Clearly she was upset about the gender issues pre-transition but she knew she was going to transition and the harder she worked at that time, the easier her life would be after transitioning. She saved up a big nest egg for transition and she's basically done + we still have a lot left over.
