Christianity general.

Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox, Coptic, Anglicans... all are welcome. But please, try to keep the discussion civilized.

Non-believers are encouraged to participate, but please refrain from ad hominem attacks or retarded "CHECKMATE CHRISTFAGS" tier statements.

Not welcome: atheist shitposters, Christ-hating kikes, arguments without any basis in Scripture, theology, or history

Here's a good topic for discussion: where do you stand on the Papal primacy? Does Matthew 16:18 refer specifically to Peter, or were all the Apostles considered the "rock" of the Church?

I'm torn on the issue. On one hand, we have passages like :
>“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in Him I will trust, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my Savior, You save me from violence.”
But we're also told to treat the enemy with humility, and to not worry about this life:
>But I say to you not to resist evil: but if one strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other

>Implying it has anything to do with suffering a suicidal belief system

In terms of birth rates conservative religious > liberally religious > atheists. Christians on average (most of them in Europe being fairweather Christians with zero interest in the faith) barely have more children than Muslims. Muslims, even in Europe, routinely pump out four children per family.

Christianity might survive in Europe in the same way it survived in the Balkans: as Dhimmi's, with high perversion rates to Islam due to systematic oppression.

See here's the thing, if you had been around for long, you would know that the christian threads popping up constantly is a new situation.

For years there was MAYBE a handful of christian threads per month, and they were usually all made by the same name/avatarfag, so they were quite distinctive.

Even your insults are telling people to go back to a place that has not existed for very long in relation to /pol/.

You might be able to grift a few fellow newcomers into thinking that your hebrew demon means a damn to a board that exists to resist jewry, but you're not fooling anybody who matters.
>>
>>73500449

I completely agree, but this thread is especially cancer. OP literally asks "Does Matthew 16:18 refer specifically to Peter". This is as offboard as can be. OP tries to turn /pol/ into some kind of Christfaggy chatroom.

No friend, I suggest you convert the the one true and noble religion, Islam. Only do this if you truly mean it though, Allah punishes those with false faith.

Christians and Jews are one in the same, it even says so in the Holy Quran:

[5.51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

The way I see it, Matthew 5:39 is in the context of Matthew 5:38, which is to take a complete stance against revenge

Basically, do what is just and righteous, never purely for yourself and never for personal revenge or to personally avenge God

Ecclesiastes 7:17 speaks firmly against suicide just for the sake of suicide, if it can be at all prevented by acting

>Here's a good topic for discussion: where do you stand on the Papal primacy? Does Matthew 16:18 refer specifically to Peter, or were all the Apostles considered the "rock" of the Church?

1Co 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

St. John Chrysostom often said that the Peter/Rock entendre was to signify that the Church was built on the strength of Peter's confession, not Peter himself. "It is upon Peter's confession of Christ as the true Son of God that the Church is immovably built."

It is also worth nothing that the powers to bind and loose were also given to all of the apostles two chapters later. Mt 18:18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

If the pope were to rejoin the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church he would have a role similar to what the Ecumenical Patriarch has now.

I wouldn't say that you are in any way less Catholic but depending how you disregard him it could be of poor character. Despite his views, he is a man taught and lived in the faith and has much wisdom to say because of it. While I find some of his judgements based on poorly understood facts, it's improper to disregard him without seriously considering his argument or claims as he could be right and still teach us something.

Russian Orthodox here. I like the values that the church teaches but the holier than though attitudes of some parishioners get to me. They develop this preachy attitude towards anyone who doesn't get up to their spiritual level that it pushes me away from wanting to attend services. I still believe and attempt to be a good person but it really drives a wedge when they start quoting some random passage they memorized and expect you to know and live by.

I'm Catholic, devout one, I even try sometimes to evangelize people beside internet discussion, fun stuff really, so it's pretty sure that I agree for papal primacy. Bishop of Rome always been the last instance in the matter of faith. Like once St. Augustine said "Roma locuta; causa finita est".

Catholic (Latin Rite) and Eastern Orthodox (Byzantine Rite) have the best art and architecture in my opinion.

I'm particularly fond of Latin Rite Catholic Churches that still use old Roman style architecture instead of Gothic. They're usually made of brick or stone like a Roman Catholic church you'd expect, but they usually have rounded domes like you'd see in Byzantine architecture. I wish I had an example to show you.

Anyways, I know the type of people you're talking about. I try to ignore them. In my experience, the preachiest people are the biggest sinners, who try to fool everyone at church into thinking they're amazing people because they're afraid we'll see past them.

Don't get angry at them, pray for them. They suffer from pride, because they're too afraid to admit they're sinners like the rest of us.

Music was (literally) divine; the organ sounded like it was surrounding me, and the choir was top tier. I love my home church (Protestant), but it's nice to explore. I couldn't get my kneeling thing to open so I just sat on the edge of my seat and hoped people weren't looking at me (was in the front). Westminster Cathedral btw, do recommend.

I would say so but the guy I was speaking to was arguing that there are such things as "Christian Unitarian Universalists" as much as there are Muslim or other ones for other worldviews.

Of course I ask why Unitarian Universalist doesn't mean Unitarianian when Trinitarian Universalism exists but he largely skipped over it by arguing that Unitarian Universalism doesn't mean Unitarianism or Universalism.

I haven't seen his wife either, they may have divorced. Every time I go to services he always tries to come up and tell me about how to live my life and what to do. Its simple, it was made famous by John Calvin, but these ideas were considered by many early church fathers, such as augustine, in its most simple form, it can boil down to TULIP
Total Depravity: the sinful can not seek God
Unconditional election: God chooses who he saves
Limted Atonement: christ died for the elect
Irresistible grace: those predestined by God will grow with him, and through god, stop wilfully sinning, and performing good works,
Perseverance of the saints: those who God predestined, cannot lose their salvation, for obvious reasons.

Unitarian is the belief that God is one (not simply monotheism but denying the trinity as well). Universalism is the belief that everyone eventually gets salvation.

Basically I was arguing with the guy on the grounds of the beliefs tied to the name of the group and then get told they aren't relevant and the name is used for historical purposes rather than what the group actually supports. Then I argue that the group means next to nothing and they have turned that group into irrelevant triviality by getting rid of everything unique to it. The poster stops.

1. When looking at women, generally, don't look at their individual body and parts but look at them in relation to women as a concept or as a collective.

2. Pick up a physical activity.

3. Realize that the self-discipline is actually for your own personal improvement (happiness-wise and otherwise) like most other teachings.

4. Play Katawa Shoujo.

5. Realize that the Catechism refers to masturbation as "the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure." so the experience of wet dreams and medical uses for it are not dealing with the issue here.

The Golden Rule has turned against us. It's mutated into universalism in the modern world.

This is destroying the Western world. For god's sakes, the Pope is kissing Muslim's feet and promoting open borders across Europe.

Might be time to reconsider, or at least recast, things. I think revisiting Kiergaard's conception of Love Thy Neighbor is more important than ever.

It is not the Golden Rule that is the issue. It is the lack of focus on the good and a misinterpretation of whats going on in the world. People can do unto others as they want done onto them but without a focus on to seek that only illuminates so much in terms of social cohesion and without grasping the situation at hand people are quick to fail in their application of the Golden Rule rather than making the Golden Rule the issue itself.

And Love Thy Neighbor is still extremely valuable.

As a Christian and a nationalist this question is always bothering me.

I do not want Muslim migrants or other undesirables (godless communists, Jews, etc...) in my country, but there is no theological justification it seems for turning these people away and defending our land and traditions from these supposedly "peaceful" intruders.

So what is it that I can do? It seems the more I read into this problem the more it seems my nationalistic political views are contrary to Christianity as a whole, but I've seen what happens to these places in Europe who suffer from Islamic and secular leftist influence and I don't like it at all.

Is there some way to reconcile nationalism with Christian theology? Am I just looking at this the wrong way?

I'm protestant by the way.

I suppose I was taking poorly the idea of "convince yourself that it is real". In terms of needing more evidence and thought behind it, you're definitely right, but I was taking it as trying to imply a kind of self-induced social conditioning. My issue with the latter being that new converts come into it with interest rather trying to force themselves.

But I realized I may have misjudged by what you said and sorry if that's the case.

Surprise, you can't. There is no theological justification for anti-immigrant nationalism in the Gospels; the closest you will find is "render unto Caesar".

A dindunuffin that doesn't steal, but doesn't read a bible, is basically good as long as he has zero awareness basically.

>But why is it your job to make sure others don't sin? Doesn't that kind of interfere with the whole freewill thing Christianity likes to hold out?

Christian teaching upholds fighting evil generally. The very idea of leading a life of love would mean to will the good of things and that would mean rejecting and trying to work against the problems of others. But of course that is difficult when we struggle with ourselves as well so working towards the good should be for all things, including ourselves.

This doesn't interfere with free will and legalism doesn't change the hearts of people. It just restricts certain movements from being done openly.

>>

>But why is it your job to make sure others don't sin?
Firstly, because Jesus made it his job to reprimand sinners and attempt to bring people closer to God, I feel, as a follower of Christ, that I should also do this.

Secondly, because turning on my television or just walking outside and seeing such things as barely clothed, scandalous women prancing around or other orgiastic, carnal nonsense these Jews love to blast across the airwaves actively tempts me personally into sin, or even causes me to sin without even thinking about it, thus I have a personal issue with these things as well. Hmm, I'd love to see a scriptural basis for this in the new testament. The OT is full of that kind of language, but that's really Judaism; Jesus says he has come to abolish the old ways and bring in the new, so we can't rely on slaying Amelekites as a basis for how to conduct ourselves

Technically yes that is enough. However your spiritual progress would be greatly hampered.

Ignorance of the law is not a valid defence anon. That's why evangelism is so important.
Why would Jesus have revealed the gospel if he could have kept us ignorant and saved us all?

This idea of passivity in the face of immorality is one of the most destructive things a society can develop. I'm sure you've heard "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." and current western society proves it.

Matthew 29:19:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

Romans 10:13-14:
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"

1. They were not refugees.
2. Joseph was called to Bethlehem and had to bring his wife Mary with him.
3. The hotel was full and so they just got a lesser room.
4. Jesus does say to help refugees.
5. But he also says Luke 22:36
"He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one."

I genuinely believe Jesus would protect us as he died for our sins so we may be saved. I don't believe he would let us be slaughtered and forced into slavery at the hands of our oppressors.

Untrue. John 3:16-18:
16“For God so loved the world,i that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. (ESV)

True faith in Christ is what brings salvation. Baptism is a public display of said faith.

Hi!
Israel IQ is lower than most European nations. The first one is their fault as well; for they do not value values above survival. They may just be machines - an existence for the sake of existence is not worth living.

What good are we to do for others if not an escape from sin? If we are all one in God how do we see God in all things if we separate one another?

No.

They baptised to show their faith. They were saved because they believed in the Gospel.

Absolutely not. Jehovah's Witnesses Don' think Christ was divine (I think), and Mormons think that God is some ayy lmao that got gud enough to make his own planet with has own race. Jesus was the first offspring and Satan the second.

It's fascinating to me to watch those groups break off from Christianity, because it's exactly how Christianity started. During the first 200 years after Jesus, Christians to outsiders were just "those weird Jews that eat human flesh and drink blood." The exact same thing is happening with Mormons and to a lesser extent JW. They undeniably came from Christianity, but they are now struggling with how to identify themselves. Mormons have always maintained that they are "Christians just like you!", while JW don't seem to care. It's very interesting to watch the evolution of religions.

You're taking an analogy too seriously, there's nothing wrong with eating sweets in moderation, but a single sin can damn you to Hell and I find it completely unacceptable that it is so easy to stray from the path to salvation in our society.
>>
>>73517207
No it can't. I do accept evolution cause i'd be dumb to not accept it. But how did the first self replicating cell arise? Only answers i've got was 1) Crystals or 2) Aliens did it.
Now, i personally find these to be way more ridiculous than God.
>>
>>73517656
You bother them because they'll go to hell if you don't. Do you want to condemn people to hell by facilitating their sins instead of helping them to overcome them? As a Christian, I don't.

Not if you ask for forgiveness and are sincere about wanting to change. The only unforgivable sins according to scripture are Suicide and ceasing to believe in God. So I'm fucked, but as long as you repent you're good. I think you're a little stressed about this whole thing.

I understand that, I really do, but at some point you have to realize that you're simply not going to change anyone's mind by constantly haranguing them. You should draw people to you by being a good example and content with your righteous life. I mean definitely let people know about the good news, but if they're unwilling to accept there's simply nothing you can do.
>>
>>73517926
By the way, it's funny how most left wing people apply to every single level in hell.
>>
>>73517988
We can't take sin lightly just because repentance is possible.
>>
>>73518157
>you're simply not going to change anyone's mind by constantly haranguing them
Jesus did quite a lot of haranguing and was quite successful.
>>
>>73518215
No, but you're not going straight to hell for jerking off once because you saw some chicks in bikinis in a movie then confessed and asked for repentance the next day.

You can't expect the world to bend over backwards for you because you don't want to sin, which is a completely arbitrary concept in the context of your specific religion. In fact, I would argue that this mentality is the EXACT same thing as Muslims demanding Shariah law in western countries.

Ah, I see. Well then I must remind you that people being okay with things does not make it the good nor specifically good for them. But for the case of homosexuality while we have nothing efficacious for the orientation itself (what has been proposed has been dangerous and horrendous failures) it must be reminded that the sin associated with homosexuality is not one of orientation but the older term which refers to homosexual sex and those who do it.
