Even if the numbers are accurate, there are a lot more simple answers than just "racism."
It's not even a conscience decision, it's just coincidence.
Your friends are typically people who you go to school with, who live in your neighborhood, who you work with, who you go to church with, etc.
Blacks tend to live around other blacks, whites tend to live around other whites.
Schools are typically tied to neighborhoods, so your neighbors are your classmates.
Black churches are usually completely black. A white person would have a stroke in a traditional black church - they take praising Jesus to a whole new level (I've attended services at a few black churches. Shit is crazy).
That really just leaves work to find "minority" friends, and even then, they're called minorities because they're minorities, so your choices are probably limited.
I'm pretty confident most people just want to be left alone and are in the no friends category. I'm away from home 55+ hours a week at work, I like my coworkers but I'm not going to have them over so we can spend even more time together. Leisure time is family time. And in my experience, the stereotype of a man with friends is someone who is broken because his wife left him and he has no other support.
